top 10%?

hi, i’m applying to umich this year and i was looking over the international student requirements here: www . admissions.umich.edu/international-requirements-by-country
and it says that for korean applicants from international schools we are REQUIRED to be in the top 10%.

American Overseas Schools and American-Patterned Education
(Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc.)

International or U.S. students with diplomas from United States-administered American, International, or Department of Defense Dependent schools: Placement in the top ten percent of the class and strong entrance test scores are required for freshman application. Students may apply during their senior year.

is this true or am i misunderstanding something?? if so, why did my counsellor allow me to apply here… should i not bother turning in my application at all…??

I don’t believe that is a requirement as much as a strong recommendation. For US applicants it claims to require 4 years of English where I got in taking only 3.
