<p>I don’t know. I suspect the high acheivers in most high schools (or, even say, the top half) are hearing the “you’re really smart/talented, you should go to (best college speaker can think of).” </p>

At Notre Dame, only 10% of admitted students have a class rank below 10%. Only 25% of admitted students have an SAT score below 1990. A lot of those low achievers will be recruited athletes or URMs, so the real percentage is lower than that. To be competitive, you really want to get that SAT score above 2100.</p>
