top 15 most prestigious universities

To UChicago affiliates, I’m sorry if I offended you but I’m just reporting that U of C is definitely not well-known among the masses. Don’t hate the messenger here. At Harvard Law School, U of C is known of course but the kids from there tend to have a “that kid” reputation, which is not good in this context. I think for most topnotch professional schools, one is expected to be both extremely smart and socially savvy, and that puts U of C kids (at least those currently enrolled) at a distinct disadvantage. However, I think as U of C’s reputation changes, its student body will change as well. The arts and sciences departments might be more tolerant of non-socially savvy kids but there’s probably still an etiquette that students follow so as not to come across as unnecessarily nitpicky. The kinds of questions asked by U of C graduates are incisive indeed but not necessarily keen. I’m not against non-mainstream individuals (I think that’s actually good in many ways), but I’m just stating that U of C kids tend to carry themselves in ways that professional students might not necessarily find ideal or even “proper.”

LOL, are you insinuating that you are currently a Harvard law student?

It has been my experience as well that Chicago, Caltech and MIT grads tend to have worse social skills than their peers and can’t converse as extensively about sports and pop culture as their Ivy League, Stanford, Duke and Northwestern counterparts.

you can’t be serious. You don’t need to spend your parent’s hard earned dollars to get better at pop culture. [I guess you did not mean it that way.] All you need to do is watch a lot of TV, watch a lot of Youtube, and hang out with friends at the pub or … but the folks from Chicago, Caltech and MIT hold human quality unmatched by all the other schools you listed. I know first hand.

If you want to be good at “social skills than their peers and can’t converse as extensively about sports and pop culture as” go to your local community college. Look at this Duke medical school graduate, physician, teaching at the Community College!
I am ashamed that he is an Asian. Just kidding – he is a really talented person pursuing his dream job.

But I am not kidding on this: All you need to do to be good at such social skills is to spend about six years at your best local CC.

^ whoosh…

Johns Hopkins, Harvard, MIT, Cal Tech, Vandy, Cornell, Yale, Duke, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, UPenn, Columbia, Dartmouth, Naval Academy

^^^Not one school in the midwest…Interesting.

you would have to replace Vandy with Chicago and Naval Academy with Northwestern

Duke, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Cal Tech, MIT, Stanford, UPenn, Westpoint, Chicago, Brown, Northwestern, Rice, Johns Hopkins

would have to replace rice with dartmouth

How the hell can you consider Rice, Northwestern, and JHU to be more prestigious than Cornell or Dartmouth? Also, why are we considering service academies in this? It’s not like Juilliard should be included as well…

Oh, I’m sorry. Let’s just make this boring then and say that the top 15 are ALL the Ivies, Cal Tech, MIT, Stanford, Chicago, Duke, Johns Hopkins and insert obvious choice #15 here.

gosh this people kids who get into jhu were all waitlisted by NU. nice try jhu grads
(in this order)
Harvard Yale Princeton MIT Stanford Caltech Columbia UPenn Dartmouth Brown Cornell Duke UChicago Northwestern WASHU

Each composite ranking has its own methodology and favors some schools over others. Here is an aggregate ranking that I made by simply adding together the ranking from 6 popular ranking sources: Forbes, US News, ARWU, Washington Monthly, Times and QS, (order matches)

Harvard: 6+1+1+11+4+3 = 26
Stanford: 3+6+2+3+2+15 = 31
MIT: 11+6+3+15+5+1 = 41
Princeton: 1+1+7+20+6+9= 44
Yale: 5+3+11+41+11+7 = 78
Columbia: 8+4+8+36+14+11 = 81
Caltech: 18+10+6+49+1+10 = 94
Berkeley: 50+21+4+5+9+22 = 111

I think Gailforce’s rankings are pretty accurate. The top 10 or so universities are generally agreed on.

oh wow. this should encourage me to chose UCLA over Cornell :D.

Those rankings are obviously bogus. UCB above Princeton? UCLA above Yale?
Duke, Brown, Northwestern and Dartmouth not in the top 15? You’ve got to be kidding me.
