Top BS/MD Programs/Schools

Hmm…well I’m a freshman at a private school with about 60 students in my class. Nearly everyone is smart. For the first quarter, I’ve got a B average, but I expect that to change next qtr to an a… Well to cut to the chase, what are the best BS/MD Schools that aren’t “killer, ivy league killer” to get in? My guidance counselor wants me to start brainstorming which pretty much makes no sense this early. :/

Any good bs/md is as hard as an ivy league to get in.

I agree that it seems too early for you to be researching this. Your GC is nuts.

I agree with both of the previous posts. Just do what you like for now and see where that takes you. Don’t even think about college until summer after sophomore year.

Did my B avg this first quarter screw up my future chances of one of the top schools? Also what are the best AP courses to take online?

LOL no it won’t screw up your chances.
Your quarter grade probably isn’t even recorded on your GPA
Most likely your GPA is made of your SEMESTER grade.
don’t sweat it or you’re going to die of stress.

If you don’t want to stress about getting into a combined program right now, just kick back on the couch this Saturday night, 8pm EST and watch Penn State play Ohio State on ABC!!! Saturday night football!!! This is the biggest game this season for Penn State’s 81 year old head coach, Joe Paterno (JoePa)!!!

It’s gonna be great !!!

Go JoePa !!!

It is too early to research. But it is not too early to get GPA = 4.0 uw or get very close. Vast majority of applicants to these programs graduated either at the top of their class or very close to it. And there are other reguirements…

Gomez, No harsh feelings intended… but kids come on line at the Premed or Combined degree threads for advice regarding PreMed years. This is NOT a Sports thread. You really should consider posting in a different thread if you are really seeking some responses to your interests rather than hijack other serious Premed threads.

Pharmagal, Gomez brings an air of relief from all this high intensity talk. Take it like a “bump”. It brings up threads, plus inform us when the next penn state game is.

Do yourself a favor and don’t take any online. I’m speaking as someone who has taken AP courses online and they are terrible. Online courses should be avoided at all costs. There are many reasons for this including poor instruction (you will be self-studying 100%) and motivational issues.

Your school most likely doesn’t report quarter grades on the transcript/incorporate them in your GPA. Just bring your grades up and maintain a high GPA. That’s all you can do right now. Also, you can start volunteering at a hospital and/or shadow a physician.

As pretty much everyone has mentioned, it is way too early to be concerned about this.

if it were my decision, gomez would be burned at the stake.

wow ZZZ, isn’t that a little harsh? =)

^ I agree, zzz’s response was really harsh, but I am tired of seeing Penn State sports threads getting bumped every time I visit this forum. It’s so off-topic. I’m fine with something random every once in a while that but it seems like he posts about PSU sports every day.

Correction: PSU sport. The man loves the Nittany Lions. B/c of the fact that he’s a part of PSU’s BA/MD, he’s part of one of the biggest football schools in the nation. There’s no malice in his school spirit.
