Agree. But I noticed when he gets a compliment, he is pretty low-key. Maybe that is just when it is from a guest judge?
I watched last weekâs episode last night. And it dawned on me that often he uses his personality to compensate for a dish maybe not as stellar as heâd like. So he seems to try and win you over with his personality and not the dish!
I enjoyed Lana as a person and was sorry to see her go but understood.
I missed the episode where Lana was eliminated (and Verizon to charge to watch it on demand, which is how I usually watch it. I should have streamed on Peacock).
But I watched the next episode. The chefs had to cook over an open flame with items they foraged for. (Well, I donât think they foraged all that much, but those same ingredients were in the pantry.)
It was a good episode (I wonât say more so I donât spoil for anyone who hasnât watched it yet).
Now they are down to the final 4 and headed to Italy.
I watched tonight. Itâs ok to talk about a shows content once it has aired.
Iâll be honest I was expecting them to take all 5 to the finale. I thought that was what we were being set up for.
Sadly I think the last woman is the weakest link.
I think Massimo was a bit shocked at the results.
I was a bit shocked too. I knew it would be him or Bailey, but thought Baileyâs undercooked peas (a technical mistake) was worse than Massimoâs plating/disconnect mistake. But I think he did play it safer.
Does is drive anyone else crazy that they âchefâ all the time?! lol.
âYes, chefâ, âthank you chefâ, âhello chefââŠ
It was nice to hear Bailey âHi Tomâ⊠lol.
I think that is an industry standard - or it is since the onset of The Bear series
I was calling our chef âchefâ at the country club where I was scrubbing pots and making bulk coleslaw and potato salad in the 70âs/80âs!
Were people pleased with the winner?
I was pleased with Kristen Kish, had a lot of personality.
I was very happy with the outcome â consistently good food, unusual point of view food-wise, seems like a nice man, persevered in the competition through personal tragedy. Tristin was overcome with emotion when announced as the winner. Seemed like he crushed the finale.
Shuai was a strong competitor throughout as well.
I admit I kind of dropped out of watching later this season but have kept up via the tv boards.
Just watched. Tristan deserved the win but I think the other two did well too. While this is not a personality competition I didnât love Tristan - I felt he felt kind of owed and I just simply didnât find him very likeable. Shuai seemed like a genuine nice guy and Bailey should be very proud.
Overall while I still love the show I feel the level of competitiveness and skill has been lacking for awhile - except for Buddha.
I would like to watch some seasons of Top Chef Canada - does anyone know a streaming service that has it in the U.S.???
We just finished watching it last night. I thought overall the level of cooking seemed better than the Top Chef Wisconsin episodes we watched. I enjoy it but it is always a little frustrating that you have to rely on the judges opinions where as for something like a fashion competition you can judge it yourself. I was happy that Bailey was able to make the bruleed Gorgonzola work because that seemed like a fun idea!
Interesting perspective as it seemed like the judges, even the guest judges, thought the level of cooking was very high this season. Curious as to what made you think that this season was lower skill. I agree Buddha was amazing. It is so hard for me to judge how good the food is through the TV!!
Well of course the show will be edited to be âthe best season ever!â And the judges will always slip in a âone of the top dishes Iâve ever hadâ. Not saying they arenât meaning it but the producers job is to put out video that makes each season unique and stellar.
Youâre right about we canât really judge the food through the screen! I donât know if itâs the challenges set up that have lowered standards or the contestant ability or maybe Iâve just watched too many seasons, lol.
I just feel like the competition used to seem more fierce and the fire in the contestants was really evident.
I personally sort of dislike the whole âlast chance kitchenâ concept to the degree they are using it now. I rarely watch that portion and I sort of feel like it just gives Tom a reason to get someone back in the running that he think should be there.
Iâve been to Buddahâs restaurant and his food is AMAZING.
I grew up in the hospitality industry - itâs old school tradition that got dropped until the mid to late 80s.
Being âchefâ is a badge of honor and comes with a lot of hard work and toil. The word isnât just given out to anyone. And when you become âsousâ you know youâve got 3 to 5 years more before you are worthy of âchef.â
The Bear made it seem like everyone was âchefâ but thatâs not really how it works.
