Oops, I hadn’t watched the latest episode. My fault. I’m not that worried about spoilers
Rashika Is definitely the most talented chef in this cast. By a lot imo
I’ve been slowly watching and have to say that imo it’s a weaker cast. It might have to do with it being post pandemic, chefs have jobs and people are dining out.
Hope they find a way to get Rashika back in the kitchen.
This really is the most boring season. No deep sea fishing, no chopping ingredients out of ice, no preparing a dish from the snack bar food on a ferry…
Yawned through most of Restaurant Wars. I miss Fabio .
Just wanted to throw this in - The Dish with Kish with guest judge Stephanie Izard where they discuss what it’s like being on Restaurant Wars. Lots of fun. Not boring!
And are we not seeing just the judges deliberating in every episode? I just watched restaurant wars last night and they did show just the judges deliberating, but feel like not every episode.
The more I watch this season, the more bored I am becoming. I don’t think “Gee I can’t wait to see what so-and-so does with this.” The food seems meh at least relative to other seasons. The chef’s are meh as well. I need a couple of strong personalities to help keep my interest.
As I’ve said in previous posts, I think he’s def more whiney this season!
Gayle and Kristen seem to have an active, great off camera relationship. Maybe the new host is a bit of a transition for him.
Interesting challenge (and cool) this week with the native food. What do you think about the new concept of Quickfires potentially being considered for who is eliminated (or not)???
I am def not as good with names this season but I’ll be curious to see who lands in the finale. I feel a couple of the guys are strong candidates (the one who has won like $43K in prize money and the one with the health issue and is the local guy - love them both) but also feel like the woman who made the dessert this past week could be a dark horse and Michelle (?) who cooks more soulful food could make a push to the end.
I just watched the native food challenge. Very much a “challenge”, meaning it put people out of their comfort zone since they could not use their usual every-day ingredients. I liked it - I felt like they really had to use their skills to come up alternative ways to create their dishes.
I like Manny’s personality, but he is feeling a little one-note to me.
I am halfway thru the fish boil episode. Before we started watching, my spouse put on the wrong Last Chance Kitchen, so we already know who loses the fish boil!
I have to wonder if the judges sort of considered the Quick Fire dishes or dishes from previous Elimination Challenges - consciously or not - when deliberating.
Not as critical of this season as some seem to be. At this point in the season, the remaining chefs seem to be talented and putting out good food. After seeing Buddha dominate two seasons, I like that different chefs are winning each week.
Rashika did seem like the best in the beginning, but she had two chances on LCK and did not win vs Kevin. None of the tastings are blind, so there have been times in the past where you had to wonder if the judges considered not just the plate in front of them but previous dishes in making a decision. And on LCK, Tom alone is making the decisions. However, Soo has been near the top on most of the challenges so seems like brining him in was not a bad choice.
Last night’s table top challenge was interesting. Was sorry to see who lost, but definitely deserved to lose. No more LCK.
I liked last night’s elimination challenge - I was telling husband about it ahead of time and he’d never heard of plating on a table. I knew about it from our old Chicagoland days when Alinea opened because all the reviews mentioned it, not because we ever went. (He didn’t remember where it was, although we’d driven by and noted it more than once.) They brought in one of Chicago’s very top chefs as guest judge, who incidentally had nothing to do with Wisconsin. The cheftestants knew they had to kick it up a notch to impress him!
Apparently Manny couldn’t figure out how to serve aquachile on a table. He’s lucking out; being in the bottom so often along with better chefs having a bad day. He was not one of the top five chefs yet here he is.
Laura is really hitting her stride. She doesn’t seem well liked among the other chefs (no one seemed to congratulate her for winning). But she clearly knows what she is doing, as she should with her impressive resume. She also seems happier, like she is less tense. Her table was beautiful.
I liked the plating on a table challenge. I couldn’t quite envision what is was supposed to be like - apparently Michelle didn’t either I was sorry to see her go. I was concerned her table was just going to look like a huge brunch buffet. Boy, did I have that wrong .
Manny dodged yet another bullet.
I loved to tables of Dan, Danny, and Laura. I think Dan’s was my favorite. Laura’s was pretty, but did she do any “cheffing”?
