I am a top chef fan. I watch iron chef every once in a while. I am interested in seeing Alex and Gregory being judged especially considering how harsh they can be on chopped

An interesting “behind the scenes” tidbit:

“Top Chef” approached the City of Houston along with officials in Dallas, San Antonio and Austin for the Texas cooking series to underwrite each episode to the tune of almost $150,000 for each city to participate; and then the only city willing to pay was San Antonio.
Still, the program producers decided to include Austin and Dallas without a fee, leaving Houston off the proverbial menu.

Now you know why Houston is not included in the show.

My money is on Marcus Samuelsson for Next Iron Chef. Agree with prior posters about judges being harsh on Chopped, particularly Alex. (Interesting what you watch at the gym!)

It is interesting to watch the overlap. Chiarello, Faulkner, Samuelsson were all on Top Chef Masters (Marcus won his season) Mendelsohn was on Top Chef & Top Chef all stars.

Poetgirl, you can always catch Iron Chef at one of the later times tonight (I plan to DVR the later time to watch Good Wife) and and during the week. It will come on again next weekend.

I really admire Marcus, but rather not seem him “cheapen” himself on Food Network. Bravo somehow seems to leave it’s chefs with more dignity. …not sure about what the deal is with the OTHER reality shows on Bravo.

They are not very many likeable chefs in this edition.

Although they probably will be “protected” I cannot wait to see thee crass Anne Burrell and whining Alex Guarnaschelli sent packing. The same for Mr. Muscle, Robert Irvine who offered the silly XXX Impossible series. They are so annoying.

From the Chopped series, Marcus Samuelsson should be no match for Geoffrey Zakarian, who should go far. Elizabeth Falkner should join Spike Mendelsohn soon, but probablybe kept for a few weeks because the show always seem to have one of her type. Beau MacMillan fits the Iron Chef profile, but seems quite limited.

Chuck Hughes is a dark horse and at least is not handicapped by the annoying attitude of the other FN regulars. If the show does not succumb to favoritism it should be a race between Michael Chiarello and Zakarian. But then, we know what they did with Chef Tsai last year when they picked the last of the Mohawks for the show. :)

All in all, this will be a yawner and only interesting to see Alex and the other untalented overhyped chefs squirm when dispatched. I really do not see how the Iron Chef show can slow its demise after adding people like Garces and Forgionne to their line-up.

I watched both shows and am excited about both. I also think Marcus Samuelson will surprise ayone who did not see him win TC-Masters. He pulled things out on that show that were amazing, and he has the cooking competition thing down pat.

While watching the TC Texas- I was happily surprised to see so many people that actually look like chefs in the group. The older women, the tattoos on the guys, the general unkempt look on a few is what I know in a kitchen. In other years they were all so pretty! I think I will enjoy this.
