Hi, I’m an international student who is attending U.S. high school. As I am pretty determined to major Neuroscience in college, I wanted to explore what colleges have renowned and excellent Neuroscience major. I would appreciate if you name a few top colleges for this major. Thank you!
Amherst College was the first U.S. institution to establish an undergraduate major in neuroscience. You might begin your search there.
Please see poster’s other thread: Excellent school list for Musical theater & biology double major
From your other post they just closed simply discussing neuro - Virginia Tech has an entire school of Neuroscience.
Reopening at OP’s request and the other thread will be closed.
My kid majored in Neuroscience at Middlebury, which also has an excellent program.
The OP is a freshman at a US boarding school (per other post).
My comments:
– It is way too early to consider specific colleges. You don’t have even one full year GPA, you don’t have standardized test scores, you don’t know what your ECs will end up being, etc.
—Give yourself some leeway to adjust your path as you find out more about different options and better understand your strenghts. You will continue to grow and mature. College is years away.
–In your case, your first and best source of college advice will be your guidance counselor at your private boarding school. I imagine they will (appropriately IMO) not entertain this conversation at this point.
–When the time comes you will find MANY colleges that are strong in neuroscience. You will want to consider what you want in your college experience, what is affordable, etc.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I understand that you may think it is too early for freshman to do research about colleges, but I just wanted to explore what colleges offer good courses for neuroscience major that I could start to think about what ecs and summer camps that I might attend during my junior or senior year to get accepted into those colleges. As I mentioned, I am an international student from Korea, so the competition is different than domestic students. I need to work harder and prepare beforehand to go to good colleges since the college pool for asian international students are very small in size. This is the main reason why I’m already searching for colleges. Plus, I personally really enjoy to search colleges and organize informations about their programs and stuff. I hope this response would let you understand about my situation.
,
(Plus, I already have standarized test score (SAT) in march this year. I scored 1540. )
DO NOT seek out ECs and summer programs in an attempt to position yourself for any college. DO the things that interest and excite you and let your abilities and passions shine through.
