<p>If the income of people who are paying in taxes go down, then what happens ??? Have you thought about it. What is sound today may not be sound tomorrow? This can not be sustained in the long term.</p>

<p>That salary is not particularly high,given the costs of living in that area…Homes that cost 1 million bucks need updating.</p>
<p>It is truly sickening. Also noticed this morning’s headlines showing big declines at the horrible banks and wall st evil-doers.</p>
<p>Six figures is pretty good work if you can get it anywhere in the nation and especially if you’re backed by a govt workers union and have pretty iron clad job security.</p>
<p>Why is it sickening? I find no fault with people earning what they can…</p>
<p>What I find sickening is the relentless media fixation on “fat cats” on wall street, big banks, big pharma, etc. Why are these industries vilified endlessly? These industries employ millions who then pay the taxes to support the fed workers who seem to be beyond reproach in their secure and, it seems, quite well paid sinecures.</p>
<p>Have you noticed how every movie out of Hollywood puts a corporation in the role of the villain? It feels like we’re living in a cartoon.</p>

<p>Fwiw, many in Federal jobs don’t have the job security suggested,as when administrations change, many people lose those jobs…</p>
<p>The people I know in that region who make megabucks are in IT and medicine. Apparently ideology blinds one to the variety of individuals who actually work in Northern VA and environs.</p>

<p>I came here dirt poor. Kids went to attend IVY school on susbtantiial scholarships. I have math background. Yes as an immigrant and my english is poor. </p>
<p>I saved but lost money in the mraket. I start learning how to think based on fundmentals. I start learning to invest based on fundamental/value investing as kids start explianing to me what was wrong on my thinking. </p>
<p>After loosing money, first time in months I have made nice gains in my accounts. </p>
<p>These threads are not to make anyone angry but to rectify my thinking that what am I missing in my evaluations as majority of CCers are smarter than me.</p>

<p>Sew happy, the average Wall Street salary is about $350,000. According to the article the $126,000 includes benefits, including health insurance. Attorneys can be gov’t employees.</p>
<p>Yesterday it was reported 4 DOJ offices are being closed to save 4 million dollars, yet the 4 offices took in over $200 million in fines. However, most of the attorneys in this article have flocked to K street to lobby related to Obamacare.</p>
<p>DC also has a huge population living in poverty.</p>
<p>Where do you see a political bent. I am more interested in economics not politics. I despise all politicans as politicans really screw poor people.</p>

<p>Very odd article. It contains no link to the Census department figures or a report. There’s no title of a report to search for. So we have no idea what this really represents, and what methodology is being used. Looks like it’s Bloomberg’s own analysis, in which case they should really be showing how they make their computations. Giving total compensation for federal employees, but then coyly referring to only income for the rest of the article, doesn’t speak too well of wanting to take Bloomberg at face value. </p>

<p>That’s what really annoys me about all of the attacks on government workers. How many people factor in their own benefits when they think about how much they make? Then they get outraged when they hear what government workers are supposedly making. Of course, that’s the reason the numbers are presented that way–in hopes that people will be too angry to realize they’re comparing apples and oranges.</p>

<p>Federal employees do pay federal income tax. They don’t pay social security taxes. They pay into a federal employees retirement fun instead.</p>
