Top performers of all time from two generations

I saw somebody mention this from youtube and he/she said who is better from two generations of the same family than Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli? (Didn’t even mention Liza’s father).

I started thinking about it and who is better? Or it doesn’t have to be better? Other families with incredible multi-generational talent?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YOna5yl3BE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDQVhZE9smY

The Fonda family (Henry, Jane & Peter)

The Sheen/Estevez family (Martin & Charlie Sheen & Emilio Estevez)

The Douglas family (Kirk & Michael)

The Fisher family (Debbie Reynolds-Fisher/Eddie Fisher/Carrie Fisher & 1/2 sister Joely Fisher)

Goldie Hawn & daughter Kate Hudson

Oh I could go on & on…this is right up my alley.

And Judy & Liza…I’d be hard pressed to pick who outshines who…love them both.

Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole

Ravi Shankar (whose music I can’t personally tolerate) and Norah Jones

And then there is the sports arena, which might be an even longer list:

Archie Manning, Eli and Peyton Manning

Bobby and Barry Bonds

Aaron and Tori Spelling ;)

How about three?

The Redgraves:
Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempton.
Vanessa, Lynn and Colin Redgrave
Vanessa’s daughters Natasha and Joely Richardson.

^^Plus Corin Redgrave’s daughter, Jemma Redgrave - well known to watchers of Masterpiece Theater.

According to Wikipedia, the Redgrave theater dynasty is in its fifth generation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redgrave_family

And that should be Rachel Kempson and Corin Redgrave. Corin’s daughter is also a talented actress–she starred in the Bramwell series shown on PBS and was also in Howards End.

oops, lots of typos. I’ve watched them all, but not Jemma.

Maurice, Lionel, Ethel, John, John Drew, John Blyth, and Drew Barrymore. There might have been more acting Barrymores but it’s kind of hard to trace the acting family tree. It appears to be “only” four generations, though.

You can add Bridget Fonda (Peter’s daughter) to the list.

This is all very subjective and I like all the names mentioned (except Tori Spelling which was a joke), but

the two names that come closest to me (so far) in talent compared to Judy and Liza are the Cole’s. Well, really Nat King Cole, who was one of the most talented people who ever lived. Natalie Cole was great, but no.

I keep watching Lisa’s musical performance in Cabaret over and over and over again (maybe that willl be my new obsession instead of CC). I think

it’s perfection and along with Judy’s fantastic career and the fact that AFI(I think) said Judy sang the number 1 movie song of all time, I’m still going with them. And if I get any arguments, I’m going to add Vincente Minnelli’s name (Liza’s father) to the list. He only directed An American in Paris, Meet Me in St.Louis, The Pirate, Cabin in The Sky, Father of The Bride, Kismet, The Band Wagon, and Gigi.

I do like reading about other families, and would like to read more, even if they don’t compare to Judy’s. :)

Tony Curtis & Vivian Leigh…daughter Jamie Lee Curtis

John Lennon…son Julian

Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr)…son Zak Starkey (also a drummer, has been playing with The Who for the last 5 years)

Bob Dylan and his son Jakob.

Politics - Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. :)

Sammy Davis Jr. and dad…Jr. alltime best entertainer Period.

Richard Pryor and Rain

Frank and Nancy Sinatra

I thought of Frank and Nancy, but just couldn’t bring myself to mention her name in a thread regarding great talent ;). JMHO.

Cal Ripken Sr. and Jr.?
The Alou baseball family? (but I don’t know if they were all one generation)

Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr.

Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning

Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole

Butch and Derek Trucks

Johnny and Roseanne Cash

Different areas but author Larry McMurtry and songwriter James McMurtry

Bob and Ziggy Marley

angelina Jolie and Jon Voight, although after Anaconda, I might take that back, lol

Yes. The Alous are multi-generational…Felipe, Matty and Jesus are brothers, Moises is Felipe’s son.
