Top performers of all time from two generations

Hmmm, I’m starting to read about people I don’t know about so

Al Shean of Gallagher and Shean. He was a vaudeville star. (OK. I’m pushing it). He was an uncle of the Marx Brothers and I love the Marx Brothers.

A freind of mine said if this thread moves away from entertainers, you have to mention the Rothchilds, the Rockefellers, and the Fords. I would also add the Kennedys.

“Tony Curtis & Vivian Leigh…daughter Jamie Lee Curtis”

That would be Tony Curtis and JANET Leigh

Pianist Ellis Marsalis
Saxophonist Branford Marsalis
Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis
Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis
Drummer Jason Marsalis

Staying in jazz the Heath’s and the Redman’s

…and Monk’s and Trane’s

Dale Earnhardt senior and junior.

Richard and Kyle Petty.

Did anyone mention Harry Conniff and Harry Conniff, Jr??

Jr turned up at our hospital one day several years ago, to visit a school friend who became a nurse and was herself having surgery - it caused a minor riot.

George C. Scott & Colleen Dewhurst’s boy, Campbell Scott
Johannes Sebastian Bach had a bunch of kids who also composed. Should I consider PDQ Bach part of the family tree?
Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly, writer of the screenplay for Toy Story, and the upcoming Wonder Woman) was the child of Tom Whedon, who wrote for a bunch of TV shows including Alice and The Electric Company, and Tom Whedon was the child of another Whedon who was a writer on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Tug McGraw and son Tim.

How could all the ladies skip over George Clooney??? With Aunt Rosemary

James Darren (Moondoggie!) and son Jim Moret of CNN
Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper, also of CNN

Putting NASCAR on the table opens up Mario and Michael Andretti, too.

I can’t believe we got 50 posts into this before anyone mentioned Tug & Tim McGraw! I would put it down to general coastal bias, except Tug’s name is gold in Philly and NYC (and thus so is Tim’s).

And, of course, beside the Johnny/Roseanne Cash item we should have put the A.P. & Maybelle Carter - June Carter Cash - Carlene Carter line.

One more from music: Sisters Cissy Houston and Lee Drinkard, and their daughters Whitney Houston and Dionne Warwick.

And, finally (for now), a really obvious pairing of top performers: Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Jean Renoir.

I thought the original premise was 2 generations of talent that were so great you could not pick which one was better. Can’t include the Kennedys in that group. Lassie definitely fits the bill.

Robert the Springer Spaniel and more than a dozen grand champion offspring and grand-offsprings.

I thought the premise was great talent, not necessarily indistinguishable talent. If it’s the latter, then NJres wins big with Lassie.

Then let’s add Godzilla and Mega-Godzilla…

Walter, John, Danny, Anjelica Huston
Charlie Chaplin, Geraldine Chaplin (and uncle Eugene O’Neil)

Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle and their son Rufus Wainwright

Tom Hanks and Colin Hanks (loved Orange County)

Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard

John Ritter and Jason Ritter

Jane Mansfield and Mariska Hargitay

Minnie Riperton and Maya Rudolph

Bob Marley and Ziggy Marley

John Bonham and Jason Bonham
I’m just going to keep thinking up famous parents and offspring until Friday at 2:00 when the EA announcements are out.

(If already mentioned please ignore.)

Well, the qualification of “top performers” probably was the reason these were left off, but I would have thought our Repub brothers and sisters would have listed George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush before now. ;)
