Many years ago, Adonal Foyle – a top basketball recruit – chose Colgate over Duke and Syracuse, among others. Foyle was a star at Hamilton HS and his guardians, Jay and Joan Mandle, taught at Colgate, but there were still those who questioned it as a basketball decision.
Foyle, who was born in the Caribbean, took a wide world view while at Colgate, becoming an activist for causes in which he believed, all while dominating the Patriot League. He became a high draft pick in the NBA and was sought-after during his long career as a positive presence in the dressing room and as a zero maintenance player.
Today, he remains a voice of conscience, a Renaissance man far removed from basketball. Sounds like one hell of a life. Soar high, Brevin.
