Top-Ranked Research Universities with open/flexible curriculum?

Are there any schools out there (preferably top 50) where students can take flexible classes (open curriculum) while pursuing their degree? I’m not looking for LAC’s either. Basically, I’m looking for any school similar to Brown’s Open-Curriculum philosophy or Penn’s One-University system. Any schools come to mind?

Not wide open, but URochester has a flexible system.

Rice also has a fairly flexible curriculum. Also keep in mind your ability to actually sign up for the classes you want/need.

I’ll second Rice’s curricular flexibility. My daughter was able to complete her distribution requirements by the end of her sophomore year, and I would say that only one of her classes (a bio survey) was something that she would not have taken anyway simply in pursuit of her own academic goals. This flexibility makes double-majoring quite doable for Rice undergrads.
