"It’s not really complicated:

THE PILL in effect frees women to act like men (1960) + HUGE CHANGE IN FEMALE ATTITUDE IN REFERENCE TO RECREATIONAL SEX (mid-60’s and onward) = SEX REVOLUTION (whereby sex to a large extent becomes disconnected from love, committment, or marriage - (Hugh Heffner’s wish))

SEX REVOLUTION = huge increase in females willing to have sex with married men

SEX REVOLUTION makes married men believe they are missing out on new wave of liberated women

MARRIAGE plus sex outside of marriage with non-spouse = LARGE SPIKE IN DIVORCE RATE (late 60s to 1980’s and flattening but still high since then 1980’s)

THEREFORE: underlying cause of high divorce rate can be traced primarily to THE PILL"

I am mostly in agreement with you (where we differ is on the “primary” cause, which I see as the much larger problem of Godlessness). Your post brings to mind Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae, in which the late Holy Father laid down the law on all forms of contraception and birth control, ex cathedra. What he said would happen because of the pill and condoms is exactly what has happened over the past forty years.

Unfortunately, much of the Church – the majority of the Catholic laity all the way up to many top theologians of the day – ignored him outright. The allure of worry-free sex was just too great.
