Top schools with CompScience major (only 1400 on SAT)

Which top 20 schools have 1400 cutoff for the CS major? I am not good in test-taking (specially English) but aspiring to get into a good school to do Computer Science as my major.

Want to add that my GPA is not bad - it is 3.9 (and weighted 4.1)

I don’t know any schools that say that they have a hard cut off for test scores. Obviously though for a T20. a 1400 would be low.

If the rest of your application is strong, and your math portion is high, give a few reach schools a try. Just focus your attention on finding match and safety schools.

There are many great schools for CS that are not top 20. I’d start broadening my search and focus more on what is the best fit for you.

For top 20 CS schools a 1400 would be in the bottom quartile.

You need to look at schools in the Texas AM, Purdue, Penn State, Iowa State, Virginia Poly, Arizona State range.

Purdue is a T20 for CS. CS is the most competitive major with higher stats for incoming students than engineering. Purdue would still be a reach with a 1400 SAT score.

Many of the 2nd and third tier UC schools (UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCD, UCSC) would be in the top 40 and all are excellent schools and in your range. UMass-Amherst, Maryland, Wisconsin, Florida all have outstanding programs that would be near or at the top 20 that you could get into, though standards for getting into CS specifically are most likely more difficult and/or not direct admit. What state are you in?

California. I am in San Jose.

UCs are more GPA focused, although the most competitive programs will have lots of applicants at the top end of both GPA and SAT/ACT ranges.

The UCs are all good in that case outside of UCLA and Berkeley. Santa Clara and SJSU are definitely worth exploring.
