What are some high ranked schools I could possibly get accepted to with a 3.3 GPA?
give us a little more like your SAT/ACT, state of residence, intended major, and most important, how much you can afford.
I never took the Sat or Act. I’m currently attending a community college with a ged. My intended major is psychology and I have 45 credits. Price of tuition is not a concern for me.
What do you mean, price is not concern? Except for families making 350+k price of college is a concern for all.
If you’re not eligible for financial aid due to parents making too much, you still need to have a budget.
What classes have you taken - have you followed igtec or start guidelines?
Any specialty within psychology or interest in research ? What career do you want and would it benefit from complementary classes (religion if you want to counsel as a pastor, education if you want to work in school, bioinformatics if you want to work on the biological side…)
The most likely high ranked school is your state flagship.
For psychology, Clark would be a good choice. Most universities and national LACs ranked 50+ are a good bet though.
What I mean by price is not an issue is that I don’t want to choose what college I attend by the price. I get financial aid with a contribution of 0. I plan to apply for graduate school (clinical psychology phd) so a college with a focus on research is something I’m looking for. I’ve taken 5 psychology classes, 2 sociology classes, Spanish, history and some other random electives.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. Only 85 colleges or so “meet need”, meaning that if your EFC is zero and you are admitted, they’ll provide you with sufficient financial aid to attend. The thousands other universities don’t care - not their problem if your EFC is zero, they admit you and you have to handle the finances. To top it off, you’re a transfer, and transfers don’t have access to the full tuition or full ride merit scholarships, and from meet-need colleges transfers get less aid.
So, it’s going to be complicated if you have an EFC zero.
It’s good you’ve taken these classes. Are you currenctly taking statistics ? (Essential). Biology? (Also expected).
When you look at the transfer requirements for your state flagship, how does it look?
What State do you live in?
Colleges to consider (beside your flagship)
Clark
Muhlenberg
St Olaf
Gettysburg
Denison
Dickinson
Skidmore
Wheaton, MA
St Michael’s VT
Goucher
(your instate university will likely be cheaper, but for large universities with transfer scholarships…)
UMinnesota Twin Cities
Iowa State
I am currently taking sociology and psychology courses since thats what I plan on double majoring in. I have taken biology and statistics but I ended up withdrawing from them in a summer session. So far i’ve applied to Baylor, Drexel, Umass, Uconn, and Baypath university. Im from massachusetts.
Drexel is likely to be too expensive - their financial aid is lousy and they use the “co-op money” line to make the school seem more affordable - although you do have to pay the school even when you’re on co-op (unlike, say, Northeastern where the fee is nominal.) You could always try Northeastern if you like co-ops, although it’s a big reach.
Why Baylor, faith? - if you are a conservative Christian or Baptist, possibilities include Wofford, Eastern, Furman, Hope, Calvin… If you like Texas, look at Trinity TX.
If you’re from Massachusetts, obviously apply to UMass Amherst.
UConn will not give you any financial aid.
Baypath, I assume, is your safety. What about Simmons? Pretty good (better than Baypath) and in Boston.
Wheaton, MA, is good, too.
Clark should be you go-to match university though (strong in research, especially known for psychology).
WPI has psychological science and is looking for female students.
Strong statistics (and/or biostatistics) and an intro course in biology will be expected for graduate school.
Do you think I would have a chance at Boston University or Brandeis? So far I have gotten accepted to Drexel and Baypath.
Unlikely - both are two or three spheres removed from Baypath and Drexel. Bu why not? Have you applied to UMass Amherst (better than either one)?
Yes I applied to Umass Amherst but I haven’t heard back from them yet. I have heard Drexel is so expensive. They’re only offering a 9k scholarship but baypath is offering 24k in scholarships. Hopefully I get into Umass or Uconn because between drexel and baypath, Im not sure which I would want to go to.
Simmons is better than Baypath and would likely give you a lot of financial aid, too.
What about Clark? Excellent for psychology. Wheaton, MA, too.
Rather than BU, apply to Northeastern?
I haven’t applied to BU or Northeastern but it is something Im interested in doing. I just don’t want to waste my application fee knowing I’m going to get rejected.
If you’re on financial aid/meet resource parameters, you can get a nacac fee waiver for transfers.
If think the biggest issue will be that you don’t have basic statistics, because it’s a foundational course for your major.
How are your grades shaping up this semester? More B+ and A/A- than B?
Sorry I’m a month late… I just realized there was a new post on this thread. To answer your question, I have more B+ this semester. I also got accepted to Uconn and you’re right, they barely give any financial aid
