My ideas:

  1. Marching band difficulty. We had a difficult part for our show, and no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t get it while my friends got the hang of it instantly. I succeeded eventually by practicing outside of band. I feel like this is cliche, though.
  1. Problem solving with makeshift instrument repairs during band. It's amusing, but I don't know how much I can reveal about myself. What should I emphasize?
  2. Challenging my dad's racist opinions. I had a nasty argument with him. No one changed their minds, but after we argued, I realized that I'm actually like my dad because I'm more outspoken/stubborn/impulsive than I previously thought. So I've strangely come to empathize with him more (on topics besides racism). The thing is, I didn't exactly learn good things about myself here. Is it too honest?

Which one would be best, if any of them are worthwhile?

I would not go with #1. Practicing on your own is expected of you in marching band!

As for #2 vs #3…what’s your future major? Something like engineering could be very easily tied to “problem solving,” as could most other majors with a bit of effort.

@bodangles Probably something math/science-y! Thanks, I didn’t think to consider my major!

I like number two. I don’t like outing your dad as a racist and I do not like outing yourself as unable to keep up with other band members despite the fact that you ultimately do…
