Topics

I’m only a sophomore, but I like writing essays, and I want to practice college essays as much as possible, so summer before senior year, I can complete most of them, and apply for ED. A couple of topics I’ve been thinking about we’re, first, my class switch. This year, I’ve been pushing to allow my school to move me from USI CP to USII AP. The switch, has NEVER happened in the school’s history, and I’m really pushing for it. Many people are doubting my ability to take on the class, and are scared that I am the guinea pig, but I beg to differ. Would this be a good way to show my determination to achieve my goals, no matter how much hard work it would take? Essentially would this be a good topic for a reach school to show how despite the fact I don’t seem “smart enough” to be accepted in the eyes of many, I will work hard to prove others wrong, and take the challenge under my wings?

Another topic I’m strongly debating is controversial, but would it be a good topic? I was thinking about an essay on the struggles I went through with a divorce, and the hardships that came along with it, and how by pushing forward, its helped to shape me into a strong person that doesn’t let road bumps keep them from pursuing their ambitions and life goals. Is this a horrible topic like I think it is, or is it good?

Or on the other hand, am I getting this essay topic thing completely wrong lol?

Any other topic ideas would be great, as I really hope to practice my essay writing skills, and in what better way then to practice college essays!

The best topic for you is the one that allows you to write the most personal, detailed and revealing essay. The essay that is so you that no one else could write it.

There is good advice here:

One very good way to improve your esays is to make sure that you continue to live for the next year. Study, have fun, have some ECs: the more you develop as a person, the better your essays will be.
