Toronto or Cornell?

Hi,

I am remotely thinking about transferring from the University of Toronto to Cornell ILR. I intend to apply to a lot of T-14 US law schools, and was wondering if going to Cornell would provide any boost to my chances relative to a degree from the University of Toronto. Likewise, does U of T carry any weight? Does being from a Canadian university reduce your chances of getting into a good American law school?

N.B. Now, obviously I’m not transferring solely for the sake of law school, but it does factor into my decision. And I know GPA and LSAT scores are the overriding factors, but assuming all other things are equal, is there a comparative edge to Cornell? Is it decisive?

doc- my kid is in ILR so I am somewhat familiar with program.
part of the ILR curriculum includes Intro to Organizational Behavior, Labor employment Law, Collective Bargaining and a few statistics and economic courses. In addition, she has the opportunity of taking electives throughout the university (not just ILR). If these type of courses interest you, then you should think seriously about transferring to ILR.

if your reason to transfer is mainly because you think you’ll have a better shot at a T-14 law school, I do not know how helpful a Cornell diploma is going to be.
If you are truly interested in a T-14 Law school, YOUR responsibility is to do well on the LSAT. If you can get at least a 169 LSAT, you will probably gain admittance to a T-14 school. If you get below 166, it is highly doubtful that you will get a T-14 acceptance whether you go to U of Toronto or Cornell.

Your LSAT score will be the overriding factor in law school admission- whether you are a graduate from any US or Canadian university.

–these may also be factors, so please check with your law school advisor
are you a US citizen ???
are you planning to practice in US or Canada???

I have absolutely no knowledge on how citizenship affects law school admission- so I am just asking the questions.
good luck.
