Without getting all philosophical and judgmental on me, how difficult is it to a) use torrents and b) use direct download sites (mediafire, megaupload, etc) on the university’s wifi?

I read about a few incidents in the hatchet. Is it a major hassle/really risky to use torrents?

It’s probably time you focus on “legal” file sharing and downloads. Hopefully, you are and will be at GW.

There is strict code-of-conduct at GW’s IT dept and network usage. If you use an inordinate amount of bandwith your computer will be suspect and could be reviewed for you usage. You sign a this agreement that allows GW IT to review your ip connections etc.

See the following so you can peruse at your leisure.

Be safe, hones, and legal and you’re career at GW will serve you well and in life.

The upperclassmen told us if we don’t download massive files, we should be fine. I’m not sure if many people download legally here CJ.

I’m a sophomore here and I regularly torrent and direct download. Just songs and albums, not software or anything big. I’ve never encountered a problem with it! Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I’ve honestly never heard of anyone getting busted for illegal downloads.
