Tough call

I need help fast. I sent in my rice app a while back. Test scores, essays, and H.S. work towards my advantage. I forget to send in the money(I know… stupid). Well I got a email saying send the money by the end of 4/3 or not at all. Simultaneously, my winter quarter grades came out and the worst case scenario happened(it is complicated). They weren’t bad but they’re weren’t what I expected. I ended up a few shy of the gpa requirement. What the frak do I do? Do I send in the money and hope for the best or do I give up on this school. I can’t choose.

Why don’t you just call them and check? That way you don’t waste any money, get too nervous, or have to wonder forever if that was the reason they rejected you (if they do). I would think that a requirement is a requirement, but you never know. Good luck!

Do whatever you have to do to get accepted now (pay the fee), then figure out how to fix your current grade situation.

Send the money and do everything you can to get in.

But anyways, I really like that more people are using frak in everyday speech. I’m hoping that it’ll catch on eve after BSG is over!

I second pretzel (weird sentence…).

Call them up and ask. It would be foolish to waste the money if they will not accept someone who’s below the GPA cut-off.

But whatever you do, please try not to stress. I read some of your other posts, and I think it’s important I say that going to a top school isn’t a big deal in the long run. I know it seems that way now, but it really won’t change your life drastically. My friend just got admitted to Harvard Law, and our school isn’t in the top tier. Another went to Dartmouth – he did not gain admittance into any medical school.

Take the good with the bad, and just try to have fun. It’ll all be gone before you know it.

Best of luck :)

If I were you, (in an attempt not to have your previous work and time/effort on the application wasted,) I’d send in the money and not call too much attention to your current winter grades. While they might post a GPA requirement, transfer admissions and application reviews, in my experience, tend to be more holistic rather than solely grade-based. If you are a few points shy, I don’t think they are automatically going to throw you out, especially if they are contacting you for $$, meaning, they are reviewing your application which is a good sign.

Furthermore, I’d send in an update regarding other areas that might boost up your application, (new EC’s, awards), and register for summer classes and provide them with your schedule, and try to bring up the GPA through these future courses.

Good luck!
