Tough decision: Amherst or Bowdoin

My daughter is a 2026 grad that is coming around to making her final decisions in attending a top LAC. She has come down to Bowdoin and Amherst. If you asked her before visiting Bowdoin if she would go, she wouldʻve said no because it is all the way in Maine. But after visiting, sheʻs learned so much including how they ice skate on the quad in the winter, it has some of the best dorms and food in the country and how the community is so welcoming and has a family like atmosphere. She is a recruited athlete and she loved the competitive atmosphere that Bowdoin had to bring and how Amherst has produced national championships and players of the year. She also likes how Amherst has an open curriculum and is in a five college consortium. When comparing Massachusetts to Maine, there definitely would be more to do in Massachusetts to her. Also, it is pretty impressive Amherst is about to release its new 400mil Student Center/Dining Hall to incoming students next year. What should she do? Thanks for any replies in helping her make a decision.

depends on the quality of the program she’ll study in…

She was thinking about majoring in Psychology or Biology

Did she take athletic visits and spend time with each coach and team? Which did she like better? These are the people she will be spending a large percentage of her time with.

Yes, both teams were very nice to her. But I asked her, and she said that Bowdoin has to be the nicest coach she met yet on all of the visits she has done and she formed so many connections with team. Being on the visit with her, I could also tell that she was very included and it is a big sense of family in Brunswick.
