I’m Currently a junior who is basically stuck in a pickle. Ive wanted to go to the Naval Academy for a while but i dont fit the requirements academically so i decided that i would go to community college in miami dade which is where from where im from before i moved out of state. I want to study Aerospace engineering and after i graduate i want to go into the marines as an officer. The good thing about miami dade is that i have alot of family that i can stay with since im out of state from there and my grandparents put in a trust fund covering my tuition to any public university or college in florida. Miami dade has change from a community college to regular 4 year college and apparently has the second best flight program in the country but they lack an NROTC program. But from what ive heard graduating from the USNA is a big honor for a military officer in the navy or the marines. so should i go 4 years in miami or get out of miami after 2 years and then go to USNA( another 4 years). Im really stuck and im scared to make the wrong decision!!!PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I’m not quite understanding what decision you have to make NOW, as either way you will go to Miami for 2 years, right? Or am I missing something?

I honestly think your initial plan is a good one: CC in Miami. Your path will probably become clearer at that point.

yeah im going to miami for 2 years but after that im stuck(if i have the qualifying grades for the academy

Admission to USNA is extremely difficult under the best of circumstances. It doens’t appear that you are in the best academic shape for that at present and don’t think going to a CC for two years would help your chances.

You do not need to go to USNA to be a Marine Officer.
You would prob. have a better shot at reaching your goal by attending a college that has a NROTC program and trying to “walk on” and then compete for a scholarship OR
look into the U.S. Marines PLC program. It’s a great avenue to becoming a Marine Officer. My son did NROTC at his university. His friend attended a college that didn’t have NROTC. He did the Marine PLC program and his now a Marine officer. I’d highly encourage looking into PLC. <a href=“Become a Marine Corps Officer | Marines”>Become a Marine Corps Officer | Marines;

University of North Dakota has a good flight program. Don’t know if they have NROTC but I don’t believe its that expensive for out of state.

thanks guys for the replies will definiyely look at marine plc and UND i think they do

Once you’re in the military, no one cares how you became an officer.

It doesn’t appear that USD has aerospace engineering. Looks like more of an aviation program.
