Tough Times: The Pressure

I attend a private, well-respected high school in Northwest Ohio.

At the school - I hold a difficult schedule - participate in numerous extracurriculars, and I even start Varsity Tennis.

I am in the top 10%, I received a 31 on my ACT, and I like learning and experiencing new things both socially and academically.

However - the pressure to succeed makes me feel awkward when I am around some of my other fellow classmates. Our future valedictorian has his eyes set on Brown or Northwestern. The salutatorian has already fallen in love with UPenn and Carnegie Mellon. One boy loves Notre Dame, while another is making monthly visits to Columbia, to meet with teachers and counselors. One girl’s father graduated from Yale Medical School, and all she talks about is Yale, Yale, and more Yale.

Being in the “top ten”, which is actually quite an honor at my school, I constantly have people asking me where I want to go, and what I want to do.
Unfortunately, I am very undecided in so many ways.

All I know is this:
-I want to go somewhere where the weather is not always hot/warm - I like snow, cool air, etc.
-I want to graduate with little debt - so merit scholarships/full tuition/full ride schools are great. I am completely willing to sacrifice a “top tier college” for a less prestigious one that will pay for me to go there.
-I like Marketing (Is it even a valuable major?)

Either way, I am a little stressed as I just can’t find any schools to meet the “criteria”. Granted, maybe I am not looking hard enough, but overall - I just want to find somewhere that “fits” that doesn’t break the bank.

Any suggestions?

Try the U of MN–TC Carlson School of Business and also UChicago.

Personally, I wouldn’t suggest marketing as a major. You can always get an MBA and I feel that a different major would give you better preperation for business if you want to get an MBA.

Consider Northwestern, NYU, UTexas, Carnegie Mellon.

Wisconsin meets your criteria very well. Top marketing grads move right into very good jobs in brand mgt, research, and advertising. All fields that value product success over degrees. Starting salaries today are around $50K plus bonus.
