Tougher Year Than Past

I don’t know if someone has posted this elsewhere yet, but California public admissions were more brutal this year.

Thank you for posting this link; I’ve been looking for provisional summaries on this year’s UC admission stats.

Admissions were extremely tough this year. Everybody was expecting admissions to get harder, but not by this much, since the intensity was magnified from the fact that many CA schools underspeculated the number of student who would enroll last year (e.g. UC Irvine).

There were some interesting admission results from my school this year.
My engineering major friend was rejected from Cal Poly SLO, but accepted to Columbia, UChicago, Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, etc. (Cal Poly impacts majors so it’s not too surprising, but still, it’s only a state university…)

A friend, interested in pursuing a humanities / international relations major, was accepted to several east coast liberal arts schools with merit scholarships but rejected from UC Davis.
Another friend took 5 AP classes in his junior year (4’s on 4 of them), but was waitlisted at UC Davis, Santa Barbara, LA, and Irvine. He enrolled to UC Santa Cruz.

I am currently a HS junior with several leadership positions, high standardized test scores, and multiple AP classes, but my upper-middle class & Asian status leaves me in jeopardy for all the UC’s and the better CSU’s… I hope everything will turn out okay :-/

@intparent I don’t know if you’ve seen this yet, but oh boy. Poor David Hogg.

I guess I can understand the outcome, since the movement happened after apps were due and his SAT was pretty low, but man, we need to establish another UC campus to accept all these students…haha

Yes, I was thinking that this news on this year’s UC’s admissions made the post criticizing his UC admissions results seem even more ridiculous. He should take a gap year and apply again with a new list of schools, guessing he might Hs e better results.

grinnell would welcome him with open arms!

on the other hand, when do you all think admissions will become less competitive? for example, stanford’s acceptance rate can’t keep going down, can it?

@kalons the nation’s population is continuously increasing and education is becoming more accessible at a historical high. I highly doubt it

Yay! David Hogg will take a gap year @intparent

Oh, and I suggest that you don’t read the comments… there’s too many awful people that are vocal on the internet.

Lol. I’m not giving Breitbart a click, let alone reading their comments. But I did see this on a legitimate media source.
