It’s time to plane a trip just myself when D goes to college this fall.
I was thinking about backpack by myself but consider about safety, no, it’s better to joint a group.
I google and got some info but no sure about their reputation and quality. Anyone here can give me some recommendation?

US continental, New Zealand, Austrial and maybe Europe (if not too expensive). Cultural, food and sign seeing.

The Appalachian Mountain Club organizes backpacking trips in the White Mountains of NH and elsewhere. I have only stayed in their high mountains huts in NH, however they are a class act and I would not hesitate to sign up for a tour they were offering.

Check into Road Scholar (previously known as Elderhostel). While their tours are no longer cheap, they’re great for singles. Lots of education, culture, sightseeing.

My single friend (40+ yr old female) went on a couple of tours organized by REI. All meals and accomodations were included in the price, and the day hikes were amazing. There was one side effect, though - she met her boyfriend during one of the tours. :)

^^^ Travel by yourself or with some friends. H and I sometimes vacation separately. He likes to go trekking, hiking and mountain climbing in Africa, S. America while I like to take it easy, shopping, eating and sightseeing.

I’ve traveled the world alone, however at this point in life, living alone, I know I want companionship when on vacation, as alone gets old after a time. Usually I visit family, but that doesn’t always take care of my need for experiences in nature, as it sounds like you are after as well. There are a lot of outfitters around.

Join Sierra Club. Their local chapters usually have day hikes or, in my area, canoe trips. The national organization has wonderful sounding domestic and international trips, including service wilderness trips, repairing trails and the like, for less money.

A year ago I was lucky enough to win a trip from the oufit posted below, though will not use my trip till fall. Have been talking to them the last few days, and they have been lovely to work with, even though I’m not a ‘paying’ customer. Friends who know outfitters say they are exemplary. They are known for getting people with disabilities into wilderness as well.
