Does anyone know whether a student who has been awarded a Dean’s scholarship can also receive one from Town & Gown?

An email came from Town & Gown this morning inviting my daughter to interview on campus and we were wondering whether the Dean’s award would exclude her for consideration for Town & Gown.

The student questionnaire form which she is asked to fill out and bring with her to the interview asks, amongst other things, whether she has been awarded other scholarships.

Yes, a student who has been awarded a Dean’s scholarship is eligible for Town and Gown, and the scholarships are “stackable.” It can also stack with the Presidential (regular or NMSF), Associates, University Scholarships, departmental awards, outside scholarships, etc.

Town and Gown is a TUITION-ONLY scholarship, so it would NOT be stackable with full-tuition scholarships such as the Trustee, Mork or Stamps.

Need-based aid is always coordinated with merit aid, and need-based awards are adjusted accordingly (merit awards reduce calculated need and financial aid is awarded on the remaining need after merit aid is applied).

Thanks alamemom. I probably should have simply PM’d you on this. Your advice was spot on with respect to the Dean’s scholarship coming a week after her admission decision and I imagine you’re well informed again :)

No need based aid to offset so anything she gets from this point just makes it a little bit easier on us!

You will see other posts from me regarding local scholarships. Students who have the qualifications to be awarded merit scholarships from SC should consider applying for local scholarships. These can be from civic, religious, ethnic, veterans, patriotic, corporate or other organizations. Yes, it takes extra time and effort from busy seniors, but these can be added to university scholarships, if awarded.

A student I knew in Georgia won four local scholarships before she ever entered SC.
This might help meet college costs.
