Toys for Young Adults

I always try to get my sons and my single uncle a “toy” gift (approx $15-30). Usually it’s some geeky game (ie rubik’s cube-type) or building set (ie marbles) or juggling kit. Any ideas for what I can do this year? Last year was the tiny magnets (I can’t remember the name) but they were a big hit.

This year all I have seen that looks fun is the Brookstone sand - but that seems pretty messy.

I recently got S2 Scrabble and Boggle for his birthday. He and his GF have been playing one or the other every night.

Costco has a Hot Wheels set I got for my 50 yo brother. I hope he lets us play with it Christmas.

Werewolves of Millers Hollow is an absolute hit if a game for a group of 8 or more. Is getting huge with young adults. Read reviews on Amazon.

We played four night in a row with family of all ages this summer with people who were not at all into playing at first.

One year I bought all of my nieces and nephews (a 12 year age range) Whel lo’s because it was one of my favorites as a child. Even the adults enjoyed playing with them. Google them or look for them on Amazon. Not a lot of thought, but playing with them is kind of relaxing.

Another option–a Snake-shaped cube. It’s similar to a rubric’s cube, but it folds out into a snake shape.

My daughter and her college friends play a game called Mafia
[Amazon.com: Mafia: Death and Deception: Toys & Games](http://www.amazon.com/Bullet-Hole-Games-Mafia-Deception/dp/B006ZZ611G/ref=sr_1_12?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1385343721&sr=1-12&keywords=mafia+game)
which is just like the werewolves game mentioned above.

Depends on whether the person will be playing with many others or alone. My kids like Mafia with their cousins and settlers of catan. a really liked “Rush Hour,” which is a puzzle where you try to get the car through plastic traffic obstacles to the other side. There is also a version with trains and boats. Apples to apples is fun for groups as well.

There is a track with marbles I saw in the paper–that was a favorite for some years.

I am seriously considering giving a jig saw with the satellite view of your neighborhood to my sister-in-law. It’s in the National Geographic catalog. Which btw has a terrific collection of sweaters too. We already got one kid this [ThinkGeek :: Firefly: The Board Game](http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1263/) from our fave place for geek toys, Think Geek. (currently out of stock)

Not a toy, but this made me laugh: [ThinkGeek :: Winter is Coming Beanie](http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f32a/)

Archie mcPhees has good stockng stuffers.

[Wasabi Candy Canes - Archie McPhee & Co.](Collections – Archie McPhee)

Someone already pointed out two items on ThinkGeek, but I’m going to say: just look at everything on ThinkGeek. At some point I think my family started doing 90% of their Christmas shopping for us there, given our geekiness level. They actually even have a section labeled ‘Geek Toys’ : [Geek Toys :: ThinkGeek](http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/)

Bananagrams

I just bought D2 and her fiance remote controlled helicopters that were advertised on Good Morning America’s Deals and Steals for $30. They will have a blast with those!

Yes, S liked his remote control helicopters awhile back. The prices and durability have a wide range!

Don’t forget Pin Art. [Amazon.com: Pin Point Impression Toy Needle Art Frame: Toys & Games](http://www.amazon.com/Pin-Point-Impression-Needle-Frame/dp/B004N7HEYG/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1385404817&sr=1-1&keywords=pin+art)

I did buy 2 BS sands, with the sandbox. Hit or miss? we will see.

I just got the most awesome retro toys from the Getty Museum online store :)

I just purchased a game that is very similar to Werewolves/Mafia. Sameidea, different theme.

The main difference is that no one ever gets out in the game. You stay in until the end. Werewolves/ Mafia someone gets lynched each round. It sucks to be the first person out cause then you are done. For some reason, it’s ALWAYS my son Joey. He must look guilty. He hates playing because of that.

The game is called The Resistance and is available on Amazon. Great party game.

Just updating this thread (I already posted in Cyber-Monday) to say that Brookstone has a groupon available today making a $50 giftcard $25.

In case anyone wants to try the Brookstone sand :-).
