I bought fish. It was almost inedible. But my kid bought fish there and it was pretty good, so maybe it varies by store Their dish washer detergent doesn’t work.

TJ’s is my main go to, I just don’t get bread there (and I rarely buy meat other than cured meat…and their bacon is awesome).

Had a negative experience with TJ’s fish and didn’t like the chocolate set I picked up in December. Mostly I get frozen foods there along with the occasional cheese.

“Their tortilla chips are tasteless compared to Costcos.”

That is because you probably got the unsalted version, I don’t think Costco sells an unsalted version.
My unsalted chips have been sit on my table for weeks and still has 1/4 bag left. :@)

The sushi is disgusting. I can eat supermarket sushi at other places, I’m really not a sushi snob, but TJ’s is inedible.

I won’t buy meat or fish there. tried to once and regretted it the minute I opened the plastic. I’m careful with fresh cheeses, too after buying a Brie that was filled with mold. I will occasionally buy produce but I can see what is good and what isn’t. I mostly shop there when we are having a casual get together with friends. I buy frozen appetizers and desserts.

I like the flax seed chips! I’m not a fan of their coffee.

Like much more than I dislike at TJs and their sourdough bread that comes in a bag is a staple for us. Have never had a problem with mold and we probably take 10 days or so to finish a loaf. Someone mentioned brushetta and I know this is a ‘dislike’ thread but that’s a staple we have in our house too (the fresh one in the fridge case) – awesome. What we don’t really like is their baguette (fresh – comes in paper, not plastic); says it’s sourdough but it takes like plain white. yuck! While their grapes taste OK, they’re overpriced so I never buy them there. I think that’s it for what we dislike–part of our regular shopping.

TJ’s is new to Florida. There are only about 6 stores in Florida…a few more are planned. I’m sure not fighting traffic to go to the new store in south Tampa to buy moldy bread or anything with flax in it.

No problems here with the almond butter, and I buy it pretty often (pretty inexpensive compared to the other sources near our house). Regarding chocolate options, I do like the dark chocolate with almonds in the pink wrapper by the cash register. Again – less expensive than comparable dark chocolate/almond bars in other nearby stores. Bought frozen salmon there once and didn’t care for it. Sometimes it annoys me that they don’t carry things all year around; for example, they have frozen sweet potatoes – sort of like hockey pucks of mashed sweet potato with nothing else added in, quick to microwave. But they only have them over the holidays. I do like to buy low salt soy sauce there (yet another item that is a lot cheaper than our other grocery stores or co-op).

intp

^^ Are we talking about the same chocolate?

We buy cheese of various sorts at TJ all the time, and it is not only always excellent, but the price is usually 50-60% of that at other markets.

The dishwasher soap works at my house. :)

*Frozen salmon: yuck! It was more expensive than my regular grocery store’s fresh and yuck! Had this strong tinny fishy taste, like it was baaaaad.
*Wish their almond butter came salty AND crunchy.
*Breads always go moldy. Or stale. The one bread we love that doesn’t get moldy because we eat it up so quickly is the cinnamon.
*Bananas are a bargain price, but why are they so tiny (sold by the banana, not by the .lb) and often bruised?
**Dark chocolate I bought once (regular item, not just a December gift item) was a bargain price (1 lb @ $5.99 maybe), but it was so thick, my husband couldn’t chop it at all into bite size pieces.
Regular items: cheeses, nuts, steel cut cereal, coffee, cookies/crackers.

Bananas are not sold by lb. at Target store by us…they are priced at like 24 cents each which ends up about same as 59 cents/lb. I’d bet it’s to save expense of installing scales at checkout registers.

MommaJ, I love TJ’s Spicy Soy & Flaxseed Tortilla Chips! To each his (or her) own. I don’t care for their Jo-Jo cookies. Oreos are so much better.

do not like any of their frozen fish except the battered Halibut which I bake and then use for tacos. No longer crazy about a lot of their frozen appetizers or desserts. I think everything somehow tastes too similar.
I love their parm/reganno grated cheese and their manchango.
Hate nearly all of their wine choices except for Cocoban which is fabulous.
Love their oranangina (sp?) pop for kid company.

I agree that the wine selections are in general pretty lame. Though they do carry a few decent bottles, there is no price break that I perceive on these. They also carry a few decent brands of Champagne, but again the prices are the same as at my local liquor store.

I also agree with other posters - their bread is inedible.

Hmm, I can’t get the link to the one I want to work. It is the Organic Dark Chocolate with Almonds in the bright pink wrapper.

I don’t even try to do all my shopping at TJ’s. But there are certain items that we like better there than we can get at other places, and the prices are also better. You just have to try stuff and see what you like… but they also discontinue sometimes. They used to have a Kefir drink one of my kids (the picky one!) really liked. But it is gone now… They had a high fiber penne pasta that wasn’t there last time I went. So even if you do find something you like, it is best not to get too attached…

I think the frozen pizzas (any variety) are the only thing I keep trying and no one really cares for them in our household. Granted, we have not bought every item offered, but we have so many more things that we like than we dislike.
