Trader Joe's Top 10

One time when I was at TJ’s I got out my iphone, looked up this site and found this list!

I can’t believe I forgot to mention the Pudge Free Brownie mix. Fat free but still rich and chocolately and delish (and next time I’m going to throw in some of those minty UFOs I learned about on this thread). The cornbread mix is also the best of any I’ve tried.

Snagged some of the gorgonzola crackers on the way back from dropping the D off at campus, also decided to try the Maple Leaf sandwich cookies - I am in heaven! Also took the last two packages of Almond Windmills (I would normally feel guilty taking both but hey, I drove over 250 miles to get them!)

Thanks silvervester for the green beans tip, got some of them to to try, maybe I will make a wasabi-based dip for them…

Has anyone bought the poor man’s almonds (peach pits toasted)?! I’ve heard of it but never imagined someone would think of packaging them and selling them at a store. Very interesting. Oh, and I was in there the other day and noticed that there was no King Arthur flour. Maybe they’re in collusion with them now or something, because a 5lb bag was only (drum roll, please!) 2.99!
Every time anyone in my family goes camping and needs a mix, they use the cornbread stuff.

Just stopped into TJ’s last night. They had a sample of their peanut slaw. It was delicious. It was just a mix that you put together: shredded cabbage and carrots, peanuts, raisins, and TJ’s Asian Style Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (could be wrong, but I think this is a new TJ product).

alexandrafitzmor, I’ve just brought home my first bag of UFOs. Please PM me with your mailing address where I can send my invoice for Jenny Craig membership.

Has anyone mentioned the frozen sweet potato fries? They are soooo heavenly!
(They were mentioned in the current issue of Self magazine. The one with the photoshopped-slim Kelly Clarkson on the cover.)

Cuban Mojito Simmer Sauce…today I steamed a cup of brown rice and mixed it with 1/2 jar of the sauce and a drained and rinsed can of black beans. So easy, so good and made several meals worth of food.

Wow. Long thread. :)

Love Trader Joe’s. My wife just wrote a Trader Joe’s cookbook (not shockingly called The I Love Trader Joe’s Cookbook). Our son, a recent UCLA grad, took the photos, so the book is a family affair. While she was out teaching a cooking class one night, our son took the galleys of the book to our local tjs, and he and a pal whipped up a 3 course meal. He was amazed by how easy the shopping was (as all ingredients are clearly specified, as to which variety of pesto, etc.) and the cooking was quick and easy. Plus, he said all three dishes were delicious. Even having been involved in the process of creating the book, he hadn’t keyed in on the fact that his friends are one of the target markets for this book. He told my wife, somewhat incredulously “my friends could make some great “stuff” with this book!” (but he didn’t say “stuff”…;->)

Anyway-- I think fans of TJ’s cross all age lines-- college students and their parents alike. Give the VINTJ’S labeled wine a try- great value.

sblake7, I just checked out your wife’s book on amazon. It looks wonderful!

My most recent find…Organic Superfruit Spread. It’s especially delicious on pumpkin muffins (with walnut baking pieces and cranberries) made from TJ’s pumpkin bread mix (which is seasonal, so stock up if you love it!)

I can’t remember if I mentioned it, but I also adore their Organic Brown Rice penne pasta.

Thanks, Notan-- I’ll pass along your comment. The first print run sold out in just 5 weeks-- pretty exciting! :)

I was so proud of myself for resisting the siren call of the peppermint Joe-Joe’s. As a treat, I picked up a sack of the rosemary-parmesan sourdough rolls. Tried one. Ate another. After that…well, let’s draw a little curtain over that scene, shall we?

They’re really good. Beware.

My most recent TJ’s discoverey is their Eropean-style chocolate yogurt. Yummm! After them Yoplait tastes like oversweetened slime.

sblake7,
I just ordered the book. If I like it enough, I might order 3 more for my kids… Nice PR for your wife ;)!

TJ’s has Grade B maple syrup! Nothing else can replace it for real maple flavor, especially in cooking.

We had the arancini rice balls last night - delicious!

Thx, nngmm-- let me know what you think when the book arrives. Amazon is currently back-ordered, but the second printing should be available in a week or so.

Two more good value wines we like from TJ’s: Jepson Syrah, and Chateau St. Michelle Sav Blanc. They’re each only about $7, and great wines at that price.

Sblake7, I just ordered your wife’s book from Amazon. It looks great!

Wow! Didn’t know they had such great stuff. I am going to check them out.

I haven’t gone through all the pages here but I have a new fave from TJ. It is their European sipping chocolate. It tastes just like the chocolate I had in Spain. It is so good and I don’t know if I could ever drink plain hot chocolate again. This is thick and rich. It makes 1/2 cup but that is plenty. I bought one can to try and had to go back and buy a few more cans to keep in the pantry.
