It was in the freezer section with the other desserts in the TJs that is near me.

I put my flatbread in my fake George Foreman sandwich maker for a few minutes. The heat softens the flatbread and makes it pliable and super yummy.

I buy two packs and freeze one of the packs. You can pull out a flatbread straight from the freezer and put it directly on the sandwich maker. No need to defrost.

I like to make little sandwiches from the flatbread, a la Quiznos. But I like it best dipped in olive oil.

Some of my friends love the spicy nut mix–very spicy & very popular. Another friend loves the apricots there. My sister loves the truffle brownie mix. The ready-to-eat salads make nice meals & can even be split because they’re so substantial. The dark chocolate covered everything is popular in this household. The ginger chews are good (but not much lower than prices elsewhere)–D is very fond of them. They have nice trail mixes that don’t have peanuts or raisins in them & prices are good. Hope we get a Trader Joe’s in HI soon!

We tried the Biryani Curried Rice tonight. I added some diced chicken cooked in teriyaki sauce to it, and served this as a meal. It was very good. My son thought it would taste better without the raisins. He thought that I made the rice mix myself and he told me to leave them out next time. I told him that it was a ready made mix and that I just added the chicken. Then he said that it was really good. I would definitely buy this again. What a quick and easy dinner.

Thanks to this thread I spend a good hour at TJ’s today and bought many thing I haven’t tried before.

The one thing I didn’t do was buy any of the frozen fish after taking a hard look at it. I could not bring myself to believe that it could be anything like the fresh version. Could any of you who also cook fresh fish on a regular basis comment on how the two compare?

hmom5, it depends on which kind of fish, and what I’m using it for. For example, we don’t eat farm-raised salmon. There’s a short period during the summer when fresh Alaskan wild-caught salmon is available. After that, our only option is TJ’s frozen salmon. The fresh version is spectacular, but in my opinion the frozen wild is just as good as, if not better than the fresh farm-raised. If I’m doing something like baking the salmon in a heavily flavored marinade, or making it into salmon burgers, then it’s pretty hard for my family to find a difference between the fresh and frozen. And, of course, having the frozen fish around is really convenient.

The other frozen fish I buy from TJ’s (tilapia, halibut) I cook in ways where there are other flavors, so we don’t taste any difference.

I bought the lentils. I have never cooked lentils before. What do I do with them?

To all the people who recommended the simmer sauces–thank you!!! Korma simmer sauce plus tofu plus chickpeas over rice, 20 minutes total, everyone loved it.

mom60, did you buy the precooked lentils in the shelf-stable pouch? Just heat 'em up and serve them as a side dish with chicken or pork roast. They are so tasty! Mmmm.

I’m heading over to TJ’s in a few minutes. I am on a gluten-free diet so I can’t have a lot of the goodies anymore, but they still carry plenty of food that I can eat. :D

Banana bread (but always check the expiration date)

A few years back, maybe a decade ago, I grew frustrated with bringing so many TJ items back to Wisconsin from AZ and California. I talked to a manager. Surely our town needed one! At that time, they were only on the coasts, with one in the Chicago area. Since then they’ve started infiltrating the middle, and we do have one in our town now.

- Orange juice-no HFCS!!!
- Tortilla chips
- Garlic hummus
- Ice cream
- Frozen breaded cod fillets. Yum.

Of course this happens to compose pretty much my entire groceries list. :)

mom60, I caramelize an onion or two, add the lentils (TJ French lentils, precooked and seasoned in pouch) just until they are warm, and serve on TJ whole-wheat tortillas.

WOW! I am just getting caught up on this thread. Lots of reading to do! There is a TJ’s close to my house but I’ve only been in it a few times, but have always come out with yummy stuff. Any particular recommendations for lowfat stuff?

Agree with Slitheytove on the wild sockeye frozen salmon fillets - they are very reliably good and can be defrosted in twenty minutes in a pan of cool water.

I also like the European style organic yogurt very much - it’s the real thing.

The frozen brown rice that you just microwave can be a lifesaver

I really miss the frozen organic spinach that seems to have disappeared for good

Went to TJ last night and for those wondering about the chocolate lava cakes, they were there in the freezer section but only 2 boxes left. It seems to be so popular they may have a hard time keeping them in stock. Make friends with someone who knows when they are delivered :)

Yes, I know. I go to NYU, and I do frequent the Trader Joe’s on Union Square. We don’t have that much discretionary spending money-the university took all of that-it’s basically our meal plan money going to Trader Joe’s. At least that’s the case with me. What I can tell you though is that Trader Joe’s has cheaper groceries than Whole Foods, The Food Emporium or any of the other local grocery chains. Bagged frozen pasta for example at TJ’s is $2.99, and a bag of Bertolli’s at a regular grocery store is $11.99.

If you have a problem with caffeine keeping you awake at night do not eat the lava cake to late.

Now this is a thread I can get excited about! I could not live without the TJ near me on LI, New York. Their prices on high quality products can’t be beat.
In no particular order:

Chocolate Ganache Tort
