Trading Frequent Flyer Miles

Does anyone know of a website where you can consolidate your frequent flyer miles from lots of different programs into one? I think I read about it somewhere, but having a senior moment, can’t remember where. We have 3-5,000 miles on lots of different airlines, I would love to trade them all in to one that could help get my kids back and forth from college.

I don’t know…but if you find one…we would love to get the !0,000 “orphan miles” off of one airline FF program and onto the one we can actually use for something.

If you are not going to use the points you earned to buy tickets, here is a place you can trade any airline points to cash or otherwise:

https://www.points.com/

Continental & United are merging their programs at the end of year, but you can transfer miles from one to the other right now if you go to their websites.

A non-flight idea, Delta offers magazine subscriptions for miles on their website. I found the ‘prices’ to be reasonable when you consider most experts suggest you value miles at 1.5 cents each.

Points.com! That’s it! Thank you. Also, a good tip about Continental and United merging. I’ll work on that today ;-)

ur… more less like 1c each… Was a big fan of milage programs, then they put on expiration date, fewer seats for members, cancellation charges, etc etc… To the point I am not counting on the milages and opt for Schwab’s(Now FIA) 2% cash back. I can pick and choose my flights now without being treated as second class traveler.

So, I’ve been looking into Points.com, and apparently I can “Grow your favorite balance faster by moving points, miles and rewards from one of your accounts into another.” Has anyone actually tried this?

no, but I redeemed some points for amazon gift certificate…

I like using the miles for travel back and forth from college- especially since they can be used at the last minute. We’ve had a couple of bad experiences on one particular airline, and would love to trade in all of those “orphan” miles!

" especially since they can be used at the last minute"

That was umpty years ago… now a days, they have limited the seat for ff members so that for all practical purposes, you cannot buy/trade in a ticket without using the premium seating, meaning you have to pay 10~15,000 more miles for a ticket. I have tried to go to a seminar offered in 4 different locations in the USA. I tried to use milage to reserve a seat for ANY location three months ahead, lo and behold, the airline reported no seats for me on ANY dates ANY location I am interested, using the minimum milage. I got so discuraged that I trade in all my points and opt for cash rebate.= as described before.

Honestly, I have had a better experience than that- got several last minute tickets within the last year. Probably a different airline…

I have 2, Delta and American (both credit card based, I’m not really a frequent flyer these days) The American one was great. I had just returned from a visit to England a few winters back and a couple of weeks later my Mum was diagnosed with cancer 3 weeks before Christmas, and I had to fly back at very short notice to take care of her through and after her surgery. A flight at such short notice was around $2,000, I was able to use 40,000 American miles and go for just the price of taxes. It was such a Godsend. I think in total I got 3 free flights through them (we used to occasionally pay my husband’s parents’ nursing home bills and they would give us the money to pay the CC, so the miles mounted fast).

I have a Delta one also. Have yet to manage to get a flight through them. They want a lot of miles. Was going to pay the oral surgeon with that card, then found out they don’t take Amex. I would love to transfer my Delta miles to American if there is a way. So if anyone knows one, please let me know!!

You can always ask on flyertalk.com – a board kind of like CC but for airline travel, etc. Those folks know everything, and more – and are typically happy to help newbies. Beware: there is a lot more jargon, abbreviations, etc. there than even on CC!
