Hi guys-

I am from Rockland County, New York, (30 minutes north of the city) and I am going to Stony Brook on Monday for my BA/MA interview. The interview is at 9am.

Can anyone suggest how early I should leave or comment on how good/bad traffic is going towards Stony Brook from New York State? I’ve never been down to Long Island before.

Mapquest says 1 hour and 40 minutes, but you can never trust them.

I have to travel across the GW Bridge, Cross IS Parkway, and LIE, amongst other things.

Thanks.

You’ll have trouble until you hit the LIE, I’d think, then it should be clear sailing, because you’re going against traffic at that point. Once you hit Nicolls Road, though, it tends to slow up in the morning as you go north.

You can get stuck with traffic on a bridge. I would stay over the night before or leave at 5 am. If you’re early there’s a Starbucks right by Stony Brook.

I’d vote “stay over” also, actually. Being late for that interview (I’m assuming you meant BA/MD, not BA/MA) is not worth the hassle!

hey, i’m kind of curious how long it ended up taking you and how traffic was. i’m from bergen county, nj, but i’m right on the border with rockland county, ny, so it would probably be about the same amount of time. thanks

And I’m curious to know how your interview went!
