Hi,

Which are the best parks near the campus for hiking and trail running? (I was told about “The Dish” area, and was wondering what you think about it. Is it quite hilly? I’m looking for a hilly area for running. Do you know what the elevation gain is from the bottom to the top)?

Are there forested parks near by? I heard that The Dish area is a paved sidewalk route, and that there isn’t much forest. I heard there are some forested areas a little farther away, and am particularly wondering if there are locations that Stanford students and Palo Alto residents go to for great trail running.

The Dish is great and quite hilly. A few miles farther is Wunderlich park, which is a very forested park.

Is there a trailhead at Wunderlich Park that is more commonly used as the start/finish area, and for parking?

The parking for Wunderlich is pretty obvious; you’ll see it as soon as you pull in. And yes, there are two main trailheads that both eventually lead back to the stable.

Thanks very much.

An alternative might be to run the 2 mile distance of the linear accelerator in the tunnel.

I’ve heard it’s a challenge to race the elementary particles over the distance, but I shall try.

Is there a lookout area at the highest elevation of the park? A kind of gathering and/or rest area at the top that people go to for the view, and that people run to before descending back to the start?
