Tranferring Back to California

So, here is my situation, I am currently a freshman majoring in 0-6 year PharmD at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) in Boston. Before coming to this school, I had barely any interest in becoming a pharmacist, so I was hoping if I were to attend the school that I would hope to grow an interest for pharmacy. The main reason why I came here was because this was the only school I made out of the ones I applied to, so by coming here I was hoping that I would have two paths. One would be to continue along this college and become a pharmacist and the second would be if I still did not like this school to transfer out after two years. Right now I am leaning very heavily to the second option. I honestly do not like much about this school and Boston in general to be honest. I am still undecided, but if I were to transfer I would probably want to major in biology to either become a veterinarian or a doctor.

Alright, anyways I live in California and I wanted to transfer back here, most likely to go to a UC. I am a bit confused on what to do though… Should I transfer to a community college after I am done with my first year of MCPHS or do I transfer after my second year to a UC? I am currently taking seven classes here at MCPHS and I received a 3.57 GPA first semester and by the end of this year I will have 34 credits and if I were to pursue a second year here I would have 68 credits. Is it wise to stay here and directly transfer to a UC after two years or should I go back to a community college first then transfer to a UC?

I think I have other questions, but I can’t seem to remember them… Anyways thank you for your help in advanced.

Edit: Also, a concern of mine is expenses for staying longer at MCPHS is that I am paying about 40k right now and that’s a huge burden for my parents.

It would be best (and cheaper) to come back after your first year to California and finish your second year of school at a California cc. There is nothing that you can’t do in this state for whatever your future plans are.

If you only went there for school, you can still be a Cali resident and UC’s take preference for cc transfers.

^^ yes this is true. UC’s are legally obligated to have spaces and accept a percentage of students from a CCC. If you get a BOG waiver all your classes could be free at your local community college, too

Yeah, I was thinking I should switch back at first I was thinking about staying here for another, but I found that rather pointless, time consuming, and a disadvantage if I would want to transfer to a UC.

Yeah, I realize that students from community colleges are the first options for UCs, which is probably a pretty big and good reason to come back to California. What is a BOG by the way?

Bump for more opinions or suggestions? Also, could someone explain to me more about TAG and IGETC and what schools offer it and by transferring back to California only for second year at community college will I still be eligible for TAG?

that should be all you need right there.

Thanks Lookin4ward.

I have no idea if any of my classes at MCPHS are transferrable to a community college in California or even to a UC… >_<

If it is regionally accredited, then they will transfer anywhere. If its nationally accredited (like University of Phoenix, DeVry) then they WON’T transfer anywhere!

[Accreditation
NEASC”>http://www.neasc.org/]NEASC Home | New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)](Accreditation | MCPHS)

Accredited through New England…blah blah…your good. What that means is, if you take Bio 1 there, it will transfer to ANY accredited college or university.

so if the english class you take there is a requirement for graduation and has a X amount of words requirement, then you can use that to count for credit to where you are transferring too.

It’s a pain, I have to do it to. I went to University of South Florida years ago. When I visit a counselor to tell them I have done the pre req already, you basically have to print out the course description from the course catalog to show them its equivalent.
