harvard did change the rules, in a ridiculous way, even though it’s not Hillary Clinton.

Did anyone who wrote to the dean or the admission committee get any response so far ?

WindCloudUltra,

" Quite frankly, most of us think Pilbeam has been doing an awful job this year. This is just one among many of his PR missteps this year. " ?

care to talk more ?

By the way, was Pilbeam here last year ?

yeah i absolutely agree. i cant even describe how annoyed I am right now. They need to reverse their decision at least for those who have already submitted the application for Fall & Spring transfer.

I did not apply to Harvard nor am I a transfer student but this is truly ridiculous. It is unbelievably unfair to transfer students. Harvard probably just wanted to better its ranking by decreasing its acceptance rate, since it will probably continue to count every transfer student that applied.

“Harvard probably just wanted to better its ranking by decreasing its acceptance rate…”

that doesn’t quite make sense.

I feel absolutely dejected. I worked so hard…obsessed for so long. Spent tons of my own money to FLY out there and explore the campus, talk to students, professors, other faculty… familiarize myself with the college that I would potentially be attending in the fall…and then they did this.

I can’t even go out in public without crying. I don’t have any words to explain the way I feel. Harvard has completely disrespected transfer students. This is the one dream I’ve had for so long…and now that’s all it will be…a dream

hehe, a dream, damaged.

“hehe”? How the hell do you find this funny?

hey, sorry. But i didn’t find it funny at all… don’t misunderstand me.

i was only to express that what harvard did is totally beyond ridiculous.

Comon Guys Write And Call Get The Word Out Write Harvard Write / Call The Media We Must All Do This For Anything To Happen Comon Keep It Up!!!

This is like the guy who leaves the gal standing at the altar. How much better it would have been for the guy to have told her before she spent all of the money and sent out the invitations. Timing is everything, Harvard.

That’s an important data point to consider.

Really, it’s bizarre to see a bunch of teenagers who haven’t even completed their undergraduate degrees give legal advice to one another about suing Harvard when all the lawyers posting in this thread agree that a lawsuit is not the way to go. Bombarding news media outlets with your complaints is also not the way to go. It’s not big national news when an applicant pool of somewhat more than 1,000 would-be transfer students to Harvard, who mostly never would have been admitted anyway, find out that they have no chance rather than a tiny chance to be admitted. This month tens of thousands of students are going to get thin envelopes from their favorite colleges.

All of you who applied as transfer students still have my sympathy, as does the Harvard admissions office, which had the rug pulled out from under it by other Harvard staff. But take a chill pill. Bloom where you are planted. You applied to wherever you already are with your eyes open. Good luck in all your future endeavors.

P.S. Just where is everyone studying now? What colleges are represented among the students who submitted transfer applications to Harvard this year? I suppose some really great colleges are already in hand for all of you, if you thought you had a decent chance of being admitted to Harvard.

Accepting no transfers because none were what the school is looking for is way different than deciding not to read applications at the eleventh hour.

Not everyone blooms where they are planted. I hope that those who did apply to transfer to Harvard were aware of the slim chances to be admitted in the first place and applied to many other schools if they are not happy where they began college.

Harvard is not going to change its mind, despite news coverage, threats of lawsuits, etc. They’ve had good and bad press in the past.

I do agree that it’s time to move on.

“bunch of teenagers”? Hmm. Silly, hostile comment.

At least you “kids” can now include the Harvard article with your thank you notes to your recommenders so they can understand why their time was wasted, too.

" a bunch of teenagers"?
“all the lawyers posting in this thread agree that a lawsuit is not the way to go”?
“But take a chill pill. Bloom where you are planted” ?

who are you ?

I too received that email yesterday… i couldn’t register to this site fast enough just to vent about it. When I read that letter at first I thought it was a rejection, then I read the whole thing… I’m pretty sure a piece of me died when I did. I can’t even put into words how annoyed I am. Like all of you I spent weeks working on that application and even longer on my essay. Why would they have not figured this all out BEFORE they started accepting Fall & Spring transfer applications. We need to ask them to reverse their decision, I mean at least for those who already submitted the app. You’d think with all of their money they could lease out some space for residence halls. Other schools have done it with less time why can’t Harvard do it for the 50 or less transfer students they admit.

I say we bombard them with calls pleading & begging for them to reconsider. yes, i understand it may be futile and i understand that my chances of actually being admitted were against me BUT it would make me feel much better fighting it and give me enough hope to live another day. pathetic, i know.

It’s very unimpressive that Harvard would treat such potential students with such disrespect. There MUST have been a more tactful and intelligent way to handle this problem, no matter what the school’s defenders say.

How arrogant.

Does anyone have any actual phone/email correspondence from the dean or anyone from the transfer adcom about this matter??

Just FYI – they are returning fees, according to a letter that someone posted from the Transfer Admissions Director right in this very thread.
