Having been placed on the Yale waitlist but ultimately not accepted last year, I hope to apply to Yale again as a transfer student. I know it will be difficult, but does anyone have any advice on how to put myself into the best possible position to be accepted? Getting good grades is obviously very important, but what else?

Go to the Transfer Students forum and read the sticky thread at the top: Transfer Admissions 101.

As the parent of a sop transfer, one thing that I think helped was getting to know profs well and getting great LORs. Take a couple of small classes first semester if possible (freshman seminars or upper division courses) and definitely make use of office hours.

Also, get involved in activities in your current school.

Most of all, don’t discount your current school, give it a chance and enjoy your year. Remember, with only 20-30 transfer acceptances each year, the odds are small for everyone.
