Transfer as a college Junior.

Hi Guys,
Hope your holidays are going great!
First I have to say that this is a great place for hopeless souls like me using Google. You guys are awesome!
I am currently enrolled at the College of Southern Nevada a two year college and at UNLV a four year college. I am planning to transfer to UNC, Chapel Hill in the Fall of 2008.

Transcript:
As of the end of Fall 2007 I have 59 credits (5 credits of the 59 were taken as a prerequisite for my Calculus class).
I will be taking 17 credits in the Spring of 2008 (11 at UNLV and 6 at CSN).
My current GPA is a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. This will put me at 71 credits without counting the 5 credits I mentioned above. I hope my GPA will stay at a 4.0.

The problem or rather I think an obstacle, is that I had my high school in India and graduated from high school there in the May of 2006. After I came here (I am a permanent US resident) I did a foreign credential evaluation service and determined my high school GPA to be 4.23. I haven’t taken any standardized test.

So what do you guys think my chances are of getting in?

Appreciate your time and efforts,
Thanks,
Denny.

Well I’m pretty sure that as a transfer and with that many hours you won’t need a standardized test with the exception of the TOEFL if you aren’t a native speaker of Engish.

Other than that it’s mostly based on grades and essays I believe. You look pretty good there but the number of spots for out of state is VERY limited.

Good luck.

From what I understand, residency does not matter when it comes to transfer students. Therefore, you look very good for acceptance. If I remember correctly, I believe they will only transfer 60 credits–so you may have to choose which ones you will “forfeit”.

On the website I read that I could transfer 64 from a two year and 75 from a four year institution.

You are so right–sorry. I don’t know why I had 60 in mind or maybe they have upped it in the last couple years.

My son transferred in as a junior and the only classes he “lost” were a couple hours of health (required at first school and no equivalent at UNC) and 3 hours of Spanish (UNC didn’t give credit for Sp. 1 because he had some Spanish in high school–though he placed into level one at the first school).
