I didn’t take the college application process too seriously during my senior year, and only applied to the University of Arizona. Now, I feel some regret and will possibly try my chance at transferring after my 1st year. I’m thinking of applying to: College of William and Mary, NYU, Amherst College, and Brown University.

Stats:
HS gpa: 3.95/4.75 unweighted/weighted
ACT: 33
HS ECs: Three sport varsity athlete, concertmaster of school orchestra and involved with Honor and all-state orchestra

If everything goes according to my plan, I will get a 4.0 for at least the first semester and be involved with the student government as well as the university symphony and various other leadership clubs and such.

Oh and I’m in the Honors College at UofA if that helps…

does it seem like I am aiming too high? or are these reasonable schools to try my chances at transferring

Thanks in advance

Define “leadership clubs”. If you mean, you’ll be on the executive board, I find that very hard to believe you’ll just be on the board your first semester. And if it’s clubs about leadership, are you doing them just to look impressive or because they interest you?

Also, you’re JUST starting. Why are you already thinking about transferring? Trust me, I did that at first, and it definitely made my experience worse. After I stopped thinking about transferring, my college experience was MUCH better (though, I still am not completely satisfied, but that’s just MY experience). Give UofA a chance!

But besides that, assuming you can get a 4.0, I think you’d be in pretty good shape for W&M and NYU. Amherst and Brown are tossups for anyone since they don’t accept that many people. However, I’m curious about something. Did you apply to these schools as a senior? If you did and were rejected, then I don’t know if your chance will change much, regardless of how you do first semester. It seems like if you’re applying to schools as a sophomore transfer (vs a junior transfer), your HS decisions can often reflect what kinds of schools you’ll get into.

no i didn’t apply to these schools. I became interested in the college search too late and didn’t have the chance to apply. I plan on having a great time at U of A, but I just don’t want to be too late in applying for transfer if I choose to do that. I’m sure once school starts I won’t worry much about transferring at all, I just want to keep the option open
