Dear topchef : On another thread, a contributor asked about transferring from American University to Boston College and I suggested that it was a step up. In comparison, the move from the University of New Mexico will be three flights, an elevator ride, and two escalators. Look, your SATs at 1170 are far below the BC midpoint (1350) and got you into the Honors Program at UNM. Was there no other school at which you were accepted that could have better prepared you for a BC transfer?

The number of spots for transfers is really small - and there have been posters on the BC board looking for sophomore transfers with better stats across the board. This is just too great a stretch. By all means apply since we are all just offering opinion here, but be very aware as to how large a move this will be for you.

I pretty much agree with what scott said except the three flights imagery, I’m too stuffed with leftover to think about walking.

Anyway, your best chance would be your essay and recommendations. GPA wise I don’t know if you could do anything except get straight A’s. It might help retaking the SAT again. Since you are doing sophomore transfer most universities would still evaluate your high school credentials quite a bit.

I am transferring in to BC this semester, and it is WAY more selective than I thought – they only accepted 30 out of more than 300, the acceptance letter said. (NOT that I thought it was easy to get into, AT ALL. I just didn’t know just HOW selective)

PM me if you want to know my stats…not so into posting them online.
