Transfer Chances + Scholarship Potential

I’m a freshman at Georgia Tech considering transferring into UMD’s criminology program. I stayed in-state because I didn’t have the money to go to the other private/OOS schools I applied to. I would really like the opportunity to study near D.C. and possibly acquire an internship with the FBI or CIA. Would I be able to enter UMD and get a considerable scholarship to make my attendance at UMD feasible?

I would think that you have an excellent chance for being accepted as a transfer student, BUT UMD is an OOS public institution that is expensive for OOS students. From their admissions/scholarship page, you would be possibly eligible for their Presidential Scholarship.

Presidents Transfer Scholarship

This scholarship is a two-year $5,000 per year tuition scholarship. Out of state applicants are considered for this transfer scholarship. Students do not have to fill out a separate application to be considered as they will be evaluated based on their application to the University of Maryland. The scholarship will be awarded to the most competitive transfer students with the strongest academic records and college grade point averages. Students who are awarded the scholarship will receive notification by mail about two weeks after they receive their letter of admission.

Based on their attendance costs, that would only bring it down to $33,530/year.

Best of luck to you!
