Transfer chances with 2.89GPA

I currently finished sophomore year at University of Illinois at Chicago with 55 credits completed. I have finished with the total GPA of 2.89. What schools can I aim for to transfer for Spring 18?

my desired major to transfer is Business

What are my chances of getting into Purdue - West Lafayette, Syracuse, Indiana bloomington, UC Irvine, davis, sandiego?

Can you guys also give me some suggestions to what other schools I have chances of getting accpeted?

Thank you

You may want to do some more research at your desired schools.

As a non-resident, and transfer to the UC’s your priority for admission is not high.

The UC’s give admission preference to California Community College students. Also your GPA is not considered competitive when compared to in-state residents who are getting better GPA’s.

The UC’s give NO financial aid to non-residents, so your costs would be at $60K per year.
The UC’s offer certain majors:
Irvine has a Business Administration major.
Davis has Econ
San Diego has Econ

The UC’s take mostly fall transfers.
Only Riverside, Santa Cruz and Merced have Spring 2018 transfers.

Why are you transferring?

With a 2.89 GPA you will not likely be admitted to a school better than UIC. Purdue, Syracuse and IU are out of reach.

Your options are extremely limited. I recommend you complete your degree at UIC. As @TomSrOfBoston said, you won’t do better than UIC. Why are you looking to transfer?

The only feasible way feasible way to transfer another institution of equal standing to UC Davis, etc., is if you withdraw from your current institution, and enroll in a community college, but that’s a complete waste of time.

@“aunt bea” to say that admittance is not high for out of state students applying at a UC is an understatement. In my opinion, I don’t think out of state students should apply to UC’s at all, no matter what your stats are.

UC Davis: 93% of admitted transfer students were from California community colleges.

UC Irvine: 95% of admitted transfer students were from California community colleges.

UC San Diego: 92% of admitted transfer students were from California community colleges.

Even the incoming transfers of UC Merced, the least selective of the UC’s, are 97% California community college graduates.

@TransferStalker, trying to be a little gentle since I have been known to come across as harsh. (Ask @TomSrOfBoston!) The posted stats, though, are good references for other OOS students.

Okay i understand that UC schools are out of reach, but is there really no chances at all for other schools? I want to study business in a school that could provide more about it in depth.

To put it bluntly, no. Your GPA screens you out of any “superior” business program. Staying in UIC is the most prudent option.

A more realistic option for you is to try and boost your GPA as much as you can, and shoot for a decent MBA program. However, grad school is another topic in of its own, so the feasibility of that is uncertain.

Do you have any credit hours left that you can use to retake classes and get better grades in or take classes that will boost your GPA?

So I applied to UIUC, University of Iowa, and bunch of SUNY schools (binghamton, buffalo, stony brook, albany).
I did not apply all of the above schools as business major.

I applied each school as below majors for Spring 18
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign - Communciation
University of Iowa - Communication Studies
SUNY (Binghamton) - Computer Engineering (because I was Computer Science major in current school)
SUNY (Buffalo) - Business Administration
SUNY (Stony Brook) - Business Management
SUNY (Albany) - Business Administration

so far I got accepted to University of Iowa

I think the reason why I got accepted to University of Iowa is because my last semester GPA from UIC was 3.85. My overall GPA curve is upwards.

But I really want to attend UIUC though. Do you guys think I have a chance to get accepted to UIUC?

I can’t answer your Question about if you will be accepted to UIUC but are you willing to retake any classes you got C’s or lower grades in?

that really depends how many credits will be transferred or not.

I just got accepted from SUNY Stony Brook for Business Management.

And SUNY Binghamton put me pending for Fall 18

I know I applied to too many schools just to transfer, but I might choose 1 more school that may be out of my reach. Who knows… they might have an empty space.

Hey guys i got accepted to UIUC as a international (Korean) transfer student.
Considering my low GPA, i was really surprised that i got accepted.

I think the main reason why i got accepted was from my essay.
I had almost the best essay with an amazing experience to talk about that nobody would ever have (serving in the special forces and part of the UN in south sudan).

Thank you to everyone who took time to consider my situation and give advice.

Congradulations. Good luck on your studies at UIUC.
