I am a rising sophomore at a top 35 LAC. I do not know much about the college process because I was a recruited athlete at all the schools I was interested in so I got help from my coaches more than my counselors.
High School:
ECs
Very very, active in my High School school. TONS of Community service, lead a club and played three sports. I was all league in my top sport 3 times, team MVP, etc. Think my high school experience was very well rounded and I was actually interested and committed to my ECs
-Relay for Life
-Week long service trip in DC
150+ hours of community service outside of the service trip
-Captain of two sports
-Big Brother
-Honor roll every semester
-writer for high school newspaper
-A few other clubs and service activities
. Attended a rigorous private high school.
High School GPA: 90.8%. Averages were unweighted but I took 8 APs and 3 Honors courses. I was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school but my parents refused to have me treated or medicated, something I am thankful for in some ways and upset about it in others. Might write about this in my essays.
SAT: 2090. 740 CR, 730 W, 620 M.
Freshman year of college grades:
1st Semester: 3.67 (Would have been a 3.91 as well but had some issues with one class that pulled me down)
2nd Semester: 3.91
Overall first year GPA: 3.79
In major GPA (Economics and Political Science): 4.0
College ECs:
-D3 student athlete-my team is a top 10 in D3 and takes up a lot of time. Great experience but if I transfer I do not think I would continue unless the possibility of playing at a NESCAC school arose.
-Writer for School newspaper
-Economics majors committee
Work Experience:
Owned my own dog walking business, worked in a factory last summer and am currently interning at a Congressman’s office and working at a restaurant.
I think I am a very strong writer and would have a very good essay as well as recommendations.
I love the current school I am at however even before I got to school I have always had a feeling that I was selling myself a little bit short. It may be my worrysome ways but I am at a pretty solid liberal arts college that I love but I am entertaining the possibility of transferring to a higher ranked school. Since I was a recruited athlete I applied ED to my current school and never got to apply to other schools. Even if I get into some of these schools I may still stay at my current school but I really just want to see where I can get in. Not too knowledgeable about the college process at all but I have solid scores, much higher college grades, impressive ECs and will write a solid essay. Want to see where I can possibly get in as a transfer for spring semester
Here’s where I am considering applying:
Georgetown
Boston College
Davidson
Middlebury (was recruited there for my sport, could use that as an edge )
Colgate
Vanderbilt
USC
