Transfer during spring semester of senior year?

Our financial situation may call us to move sometime during the spring, in April or May. My child has already been accepted into UT Austin to her intended major. Will moving during her last year in anyway impact her admission to UT?

Is the family moving outside of Texas? You may wish to consider asking UT Austin for definitive guidance.

If you’re moving out of state, it will likely impact her tuition. If you’re withdrawing her from school and she won’t graduate, then it will likely impact her admission.

Have you considered letting her stay with friends or family members to finish out the year? I can’t imagine a situation where it would work out well to transfer schools that close to graduation. The state you’re moving to may have different graduation requirements, and she may not meet them. Or she may not be able to pass the finals for the same classes that were taught by other teachers. I’d highly recommend letting her stay and graduate.

If you move in May, your child won’t have much time left to finish high school so a month or so with a family makes sense, or perhaps one parent could stay with the kid in an airbnb or something.

As for UT Austin, assuming you are now in Texas and moving out of state, your child will lose in-state residency tuition, but the university would be able to tell you when that will happen and what the difference in payments will be. If your child is eligible for financial or merit aid that may help too. You will have to talk to the school. At the very least, it will probably be helpful to be an in-state high school grad.
