Arthur Ashe, an American tennis player once stated, “Success is a journey, not a destination”. This is how I look at my future, as well as my education, a never ending journey of success and trying failures. My journey started at the College of DuPage. My family and I chose this institution because they wanted me to have the best college experience with minimal debt. I was excited to begin my journey as 4 year university student but knew this choice was made with my best interest in mind.
I have had many interests throughout my life, most fading passions, but I have never lost my drive to understand those around me. I have never stopped asking those tough questions that push my friends to go a little deeper within themselves. Why do some of us continue to do activities we abhor just for our parents when we are no longer “a little girl/boy”? Why do we hide some of the truth from the people we call our “truest friends”? My mom would tell me, when I was younger, that I would understand these things when I was older, but here I am at 18 with very few answers.
I want The University of Illinois to guide me on this journey to find theories and answers to questions I’ve had for years, but to also guide me to find new topics I hadn’t thought of. I have dedicated my prior years to doing well in school, but I’m ready to do well within a topic I’m eager to learn about: Psychology. I know The University of Illinois will not only give me the opportunities to learn academically, but also discover more about who I am and what makes me standout in a world of a billion other Rachael’s.
