Transfer Essay Help

I’m applying as a transfer student for Fall 2012. I’m currently a freshman at University of San Diego but am unhappy with my experience thusfar in the semester and am looking for a school that is more academically flexible and challenging within my program interest. I plan on going into International Relations with a Chinese minor so the schools I am looking at are Northwestern University and Pepperdine University, both of which are on the CommonApp and require the same essay.
I was wondering if any transfer students can outline what an essay should be like. There is only one solid example I have found online and it is pretty vague and very school specific. I feel like I should be able to write a school specific essay for my colleges but that doesn’t seem to be an option.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Oh boy - we are pretty much the same person! I also attend a Catholic university and am planning on transferring. I would like to study IR and Chinese, but the course offerings are pretty limited in both of those departments; IR is only offered as a secondary major at my school, and there are only two years of Chinese language instruction available.

Anyway, I actually wondered about the same thing when I was writing my Common App essay. You just need to explain your reasons for wanting to transfer. You mentioned wanting more academic flexibility and more challenging coursework, so include those in your essay. If you’d like, I can PM you my Common App essay :). Admittedly, it is still a work in progress, but for the most part it’s finished.
