I don’t quite understand the supplementary application. How do I get an account? What is the likelihood of acceptance for me? Do I still have to write the optional essay and/or fill out the supplementary application?

For background purposes, I’m a freshman from Queens and I have an undeclared major. I’d like to pursue something in international journalism or communications.

After you complete your regular SUNY application, I believe Stony Brook will send you an email with an ID #. I believe that is the ID # you use to log in to the supplementary application. You also don’t even have to fill it out. It’s main purpose is to apply to the various Honors programs, and unless you’re aiming for those, you don’t have to fill out anything extra.

In terms of your chances, I think you should try to raise your GPA. Your SAT is right in Stony Brook’s range. Did you apply out of high school? Because I think you would’ve gotten in.

Thanks for the tip-off. Now I don’t have to spend my afternoon writing the damn essay (yes, I’m lazy). ^_-

I think my GPA will be much higher next semester because I’ve better adjusted to college (and RateMyProfessors), and I’m working very hard to improve that (in fact, I bet a friend $200 that I wouldn’t get a C or lower in two or more courses). If I do better for next semester, the spring, does that impact my chances in the admissions process? Because I’ve already mailed in the grades, since it’s due in March.

Actually, I didn’t. Back then, I knew near to nothing about colleges (I know a bit more now), and my parents did the applications for me. My dad doesn’t approve of this transfer. I was very unhappy at CUNY Queens College, a commuter school.

Yea, I’m also applying transfer to some schools and I wish I knew half of what I know now about the whole “college process” when I was in high school.

Good luck!
