Transfer from Fairfield University business school to a higher BS

Currently, I have completed only my freshman year at Fairfield University as Business Undecided. If I stay at Fairfield University for the other 3 years, I have the potential to triple major in Economics, Accounting, and Finance. The reason for this is because I came with a lot of credits from highschool and I placed out of the language requirement. I also hold high officer positions in two clubs. So far I have a 4.0 GPA.

I am thinking of transferring from Fairfield University to one of the bigger business schools like Columbia, NYU Stern, or Harvard. However, my worry is that many of the credits I came with will not be accepted there, as well as some of the classes I took at Fairfield University. That would put me behind, and I will probably not be able to attain even a double major.

Should I attempt the transfer? Or is the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University a good enough business school for me to be able to get in to Columbia or Harvard with my triple major?

I am a little lost here, I can transfer to a higher school, but lose some of the momentum I have gained at FU, or I could stay here, ride out the momentum and hopefully be able to get a good job and then be able to get into a top business school. Which seems better? Am I seeing the whole picture or am I missing something here?

Also, how well known is the Dolan School of Business?

Thank you in advance!

columbia and harvard do not have business programs for undergrads ??

O that would explain why I couldn’t find an undergraduate section on their sites. Thanks for the pointer. However, NYU Stern does.

As @transfer9858 alluded to Columbia and Harvard do not have undergraduate business schools.

Business schools, especially the ones you mentioned, rarely take students after graduation. The percentage is minimal. HBS and Columbia Business School would want to see experience in the field, and achievements. Generally, a few years of experience is recommended before applying. You can see the HBS Class of 2011 in the link below. I didn’t go through all of them but you’ll notice that many gone onto something else before being accepted.

FU’s location will definitely help. Within minutes of Stamford, and a short ride to NYC, there is no reason why you cannot land a job. You just need to network, network, and network. Get your name out there and start involving yourself in internships.

Honestly, just stay at FU and finish out your undergraduate career. Land a job, gain some experience, and then apply for HBS or Columbia

Your stats are excellent and would make you a competitive applicant for Stern but their financial aid is horrible. Many posters have stated that their package included taking out $40,000+ loans. Not sure what your financial situation is but that is something to weigh in.

Thank you for the in depth response.

I am starting to think that staying at Fairfield might be the better option in this case.

I am aware that I need to work for at least a year or two before applying for an MBA at Harvard, and as far as I have heard, they consider the job experience as important as the university stats if not more.

I am hoping to land a job in NYC, hopefully Fairfield University is a good enough university to achieve that with my stats. From there, I am guessing I have a good chance of getting into HBS.

Anyone else have any opinions/pointers?
