Transfer from out of state school to ccc then be TAG eligible ?

<p>I currently attend the University of Cincinnati for chemical engineering. I have feel that this school isn’t for me and I really wish to attend UC San Diego and eventually get into the nano engineering graduate program. I am not able to transfer directly from University of Cincinnati to the University of San Diego because I can’t afford the cost of 50K + a year for an out of state student. Is it possible for me to transfer first to a ccc for a year and then obtain TAG eligiblity and then transfer into UC San Diego while at the same time acquiring California residency and thus paying a more reasonable price for school ?</p>

<p>Yes you can attend a CCC, but you will still pay out of state fees. At my community college it is $185 per unit which is still considerably cheaper than a UC out of state fee. You can also sign a TAG with UCSD, but remember, to be TAG eligible to UCSD you must be IGETC certified before transferring and most engineering students are not certified because of the amount of science/math courses they have to take (expect to add an extra year for IGETC). However, you can still apply as a regular transfer and you’ll be fine as long as you maintain a competitive GPA, assist.org classes satisfied, and have finished the 7 course breadth UC requirement. Once you transfer to UCSD, I am unsure of which fees you will pay (CA or out of state). I guess it depends on how long it takes staying here to be considered a CA resident, you may want to look that up.</p>
