I want to transfer colleges - from a private college to CSU with an impacted major. Any advice? (sophomore year)
Please be aware that most CSU campuses do not admit lower-division transfer students (less than 60 semester units/90 quarter units). Will you have enough units for transfer? Check assist.org to map out the classes needed for transfer and try to get as many required classes finished before Spring 2016.
The lead time for transfer applications is surprisingly long. You apply this November based on your freshman grades and your sophomore schedule and transfer entering Jr year The GPA threshold will depend on your target.
Where do you want to go and what do you want to study?
I want to go to CSULB and I’m majoring in nursing
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Admission into Long Beach’s Nursing program is extremely competitive. The program doesn’t have much space for transfers most years,

Nursing is competitive everywhere but, I think other campuses are more welcoming to transfer applicants. Take a look at Sac State… though you’ll still need a strong GPA to be competitive.
Thank you for you advice. Any other CSU’s that are more welcoming to transfer applicants in nursing or in general?
If you check the link I have posted, Nursing is impacted at all the CSU’s, so they will have less space for transfers and all programs will be competitive.

You might want to consider some privates, such as Azusa Pacific, Concordia, Cal Baptist, University of San Francisco to name a few.
I’m going to Cal Baptist…if I transfer to a CSU can I change my major to get in than change back?
I am assuming that since you want to major in Nursing, you are taking Nursing school pre-req’s at Cal Baptist. Will you be finished with these courses prior to transferring. If so, then you will be applying to a Nursing school program (BSN)? If this true, you cannot change majors since you will be applying for Nursing school.
If you are not done with your Nursing pre-req, you could pursue any major as long as you take the pre-req courses to apply to a Nursing program, so you could list one major to get into the CSU and then switch later but most Pre-Nursing programs are impacted so switching from a non-impacted major to an impacted major may be an issue or impossible as a transfer.
